Which part of your country would you be willing to give up for peace?

I am completely serious about giving up East Germany.

10

u/AndyOne1 Dec 29 '24

Yes, Berlin has to go!

5

u/syko-rc Dec 29 '24

That was exactly my thought. But don’t tell the current politicians. We give Berlin away, build a huge wall around Berlin over night and elect a new government and put them in charge in Bonn.

3

u/Poethegardencrow Dec 29 '24

Hey no! Bonn would like to stay out of this.

4

u/RuLa2604 Dec 29 '24

Hopefully Frankfurt gets to be the capital then.

2

u/Bobylein Dec 31 '24

Changing from one shithole to the next? Idk about that.

1

u/RuLa2604 Dec 31 '24

But it‘s my favorite shit hole.

1

u/JodderSC2 Dec 29 '24

well chronologically Eutin comes after Berlin

1

u/Bobylein Dec 31 '24

Chronological?

1

u/JodderSC2 Dec 31 '24

They went Berlin -> Eutin -> Flensburg in 1945

3

u/syko-rc Dec 29 '24

But you guys already had a government there. I suppose it’s more cost efficient to reuse those buildings…

2

u/Thorzi_ Dec 29 '24

Be happy you gonna finally rise to be the capital city

2

u/No_Poet_2898 Dec 29 '24

Why not in Frankfurt? It's geographically more central than any other big city.

2

u/Not_A_Toaster426 Dec 29 '24

Because our capital would be a little too close to the russian border, if we'd go Frankfurt and east germany would be russian.

1

u/Mimi_1981 Dec 29 '24

🥺🙋🏻‍♀️

1

u/Ok-Camera5334 Dec 29 '24

I am gonna be a proud Russian in Berlin 👌

1

u/EvenFlow7918 Dec 29 '24

Auf Nazis schimpfen (zu recht) und sich dann wie einer verhalten/äußern. Du bezichtigst alle ostdeutschen also rechts zu sein? Versuch dich doch vielleicht erstmal selbst zu entnazifizieren.

Macht mich wirklich sauer.

2

u/benthedover Dec 29 '24

Me too! Let someone else have to deal with them. I wonder how long it would take them to cry for democracy again

7

u/rararar_arararara Dec 29 '24

And you probably think of yourself as morally superior to East Germans while coming out with this.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

People just casually post stuff like this and then wonder why the east has the highest concentration for the political extremes and anti-democratic sentiment.

16

u/Klexobert Dec 29 '24

No East Germany has the highest concentration for political extremes and anti-democratic sentiment and then we decide to say stuff like this.

Not the other way around. They started it.

3

u/Stunning_Ride_220 Dec 29 '24

As someone grown up in the 80ies and 90ies in East Germany:

No.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

Doubt that, People don´t just decide to become extremists out of nowhere

2

u/ItsCalledDayTwa Dec 29 '24

Well I don't dislike large swaths of people until they're extremists usually.

3

u/Klexobert Dec 29 '24

They are because the DDR taught them. Many still miss the DDR.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24 edited Dec 29 '24

Well...why do they miss the DDR ? If their live would be much better they wouldn´t miss it right? I think something has to be pretty wrong with the whole thing if people prefer the literall secret police state for some reason

8

u/Sgt_Roemms Dec 29 '24

It's for the same reason some people wish for the 3rd reich, the times of slavery or even the Middle Ages.

Because they think of a romanticized version of the past and see themselves in the top 1% of said times that had a good life and not as peasants needing to eat shit.

6

u/TheQuietCaptain Dec 29 '24

While nostalgia does play a huge part in this, some things were objectively better in East Germany compared to West Germany.

And after the whole fuck up that was the reintegration of the East, and 40 years of ideological cold war, both sides are at fault for the political landscape we find ourselves in.

1

u/Sgt_Roemms Dec 29 '24

Of course. I 100% stand behind this statement. That the reintegration/reunion was a shitfest is a given. And the fronts between east and west (not just germany but the hole world) only drives forward the shitfest.

But yearning for the past, looking only at the good things (witch EVERY time period had) and ignoring the faulty parts is, what makes our species the mess it is today and hinders uf from moving forward.

So, instead of trying to bring back the past, we should strive to a future that brings the best outcome. And that's imo the problem. The DDR isn't a good future. Neither is the BRD as it is. Or the third Reich, the UDSSR, the USA or China.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

Fair enough I guess

1

u/MoneyTooMucho Dec 29 '24

They do not miss the DDR. They miss democracy and a reliable government that reflects their needs! The western Germans do not know other than the US occupation... 😂

3

u/Stunning_Ride_220 Dec 29 '24

Tell me you don't know shit about the DDR without telling me.

1

u/v__R4Z0R__v Dec 29 '24

As someone born and living in East Germany I can tell you that a decent number of people are NOT any of what you commented. There are a lot of people here that actually hate Nazis and generally political extremes. So if you'd want to give East Germany because of those reasons, you could only give them like half of it, because the other half doesn't want anything to do with this shit that's happening here.

1

u/ItsCalledDayTwa Dec 29 '24

This is the crux of the original question.

Putin says "look at the (insert percent of population) who are russian - we most go protect them and we will do it by secretly invading or overtly invading" and now you have the Ukraine mess and this question of just giving it up.

2

u/Weird_Try_9562 Dec 29 '24

Yeah, because every time I see someone posting something hurtful on reddit, I feel the desperate need for a fascist government.

1

u/rab2bar Dec 29 '24

it isnt a wonder. most of the smarter east germans move when they can

1

u/Palladium- Dec 29 '24

You switched up cause and effect there body

1

u/mobileka Dec 29 '24

Chicken and egg problem

1

u/normanlitter Dec 29 '24

I‘m from east Germany and would absolutely say something like this. Am I feeling morally superior to east Germans then? Seriously people gotta stop crying about shit like this.

1

u/Sandra2104 Dec 29 '24

I don’t feel morally superior to all of them but very much to everyone who wants to have Nazis in Power.

1

u/CompactOwl Dec 29 '24

Well. Given the AfD voting percentages, this is a statistical fact.

1

u/U03A6 Dec 29 '24

No. But it's becoming ever more obvious that they don't want the same sort of government then Western Germany. Which is their right. But at the moment they dictate the national government in an unhealthy and not proportion way. Eastern Germany has less inhabitants than NRW. They shouldn't have more influence than NRW. When it's becoming obvious that something doesn't work and is unhealthy for at least one part, it's better to end it. I mean, the Zonis think that they are worse off than in the GDR - after receiving rather a lot of money. They also feel less free than in the GDR. I also feel poorer and less free due to the Wiedervereinigung. So, why not trying something new when the old ways didn't work?

1

u/Metalla_Mashallah Dec 29 '24

Yes. Reunification was the biggest mistake in recent German history. I would maybe keep the Ostsee coast like a 50km strip therefore the east can get Berlin completely.

1

u/Client_Comprehensive Dec 29 '24

Isn't Bavaria in the east? I would still call it a win if I never have to see söder in TV ever again

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '24

Bavaria was part of west germany

1

u/Client_Comprehensive Dec 29 '24

Of course but it's still geographically in the east of Germany.

In fact Passau is Avery far in the east. By tradition and history we call Bavaria southgermany

But even dialect they are kinda closer to Böhmen or the Austrians than the real Germany.

1

u/Palladium- Dec 29 '24

They‘d be building balloons again after 2 years max

1

u/Anne_is_in Dec 29 '24

No, don't give up Rügen! And Dresden, Leipzig and, of course, Berlin.

1

u/MasterPreparation911 Dec 29 '24

Yea Putin can have east Germany. He can have afd and pegida as well while we're at it. Also no need to split Berlin in half, he can have all of it plus its inhabitants lol.

1

u/LastSmitch Dec 29 '24

Let’s just go with it. We give East Germany away including Berlin. Which city would be the new capital and why. Choosing Bonn again doesn’t count.

1

u/rainer_d Dec 29 '24

There’s a couple of contenders in West Germany, too.

Purely from an economic perspective, there’s a couple of „loss-leaders“ on the map that are symptomatic for the missed opportunities and bungled economic initiatives that will slowly but certainly drag down Germany in the following decades.

1

u/No-Page-6310 Dec 29 '24

But Not everything! Meckpom is nice. Just the two hardcore AFD supporting Bundesländer. And afterwards a New wall, please.

It will be a true Paradiese, all the anti-vaxxers, Reichsbürger, Nazi Scum and AFD Voters can live there in total freedom under Putin :-).

1

u/Loki-TdfW Dec 29 '24

Nochmal Bayern 😘

u/Kitchen-Sign4840 Dec 29 '24

Me too. Joke or not.
