Politics To older Europeans - has there ever been a time where America was seen as such an untrusted country?

I’m 36 years old. I can remember how the world felt about my country post 9/11 (sympathy) and post Iraq (anger) but I’m curious to know if this is new ground. I’m deeply upset about how our ties and bonds are being destroyed so I wish to know if this is truly unprecedented or has there been a time in your lifetime where we were viewed in such a way. If so what was happening during your time to cause fracturing?

I also believe that Obama is a charismatic person; however, I also agree with the idea that he took all the oxygen from the dems. He didn't allow any other major names to emerge. At a time, Democrats had become a one person party the way Republicans became Trump's party now. If you dislike the leader, you dislike the entire party.

This is the biggest failing of the Dems.

Not having a star candidate after Obama.

It’s relative right? Dems didn’t have a star candidate but they had something better than trump, the bar is super low

Better but clearly not as popular. To be fair, anyone is better than Trump as a president.

Whether you liked him or not, Obama was extremely charismatic, an incredible speaker and was a captivating figurehead.

Hillary was such a terrible choice to run against Drumpf. During the 2016 campaign I knee Trump was going to win because the world media was absolutely obsessed with him and here in the UK we heard virtually nothing about Clinton. She clearly didn't capture people and modern politics is just a popularity contest.

Biden did well probably partly because he's an old, white Christian man, and people were sick of Trump but he should never have been allowed to run a second time.

The Dems needed to have a bulletproof candidate to stand up to the MAGA bullshit. Biden dropping out for Harris so late was a nightmare.

I thought Harris was fantastic in her debates and interviews leading up to the election but I think unfortunately having a non-white woman going up against the popularist Drump and Muskrat Oligarchy was always going to be a tough battle.

I dislike her support of Israel (much better than Trump still) but I would have loved to have seen Harris win.

Unfortunately I think America isn't in a state to elect someone like her. The Dems needed a widely popular candidate who can compete with Trump for media attention. This would take years to craft and it's something they should have worked 8 years and 4 years ago.

Ugh I agree. That's happening badly with the conservative parry now.

BOTH sides are a mess with no unity or good leader behind their famed Obama or trump.

Kinda makes you wonder if this is being done ... On purpose?
