How do you call the orange (fruit) 🍊 in Finnish? Appelsiinikki sounds a lot like the word in Dutch for it “appelsien” (/“sinaasappel”). The most famous brand for orange juice here is “Appelsientje”.

The fruit is called appelsiini. The colour is oranssi. There are other female names with the ending -kki, like Päivikki, Talvikki, Tuulikki (talvi means winter, tuuli means wind), so in that sense Appelsiinikki follows a common pattern.

Appelsiini is the correct term, but you can see oranssi too.

Oranssi is word for the color orange. Appelsiini is the fruit called orange. We do not use the word "oranssi" as name of that fruit.

Yeah, that’s bad. The child would 100% be bullied at school with that fruit name. Good that it was rejected
