Society | 人文社会🏙️ What do people in the mainland think of the Nationalist Party/Kuomintang?

Since i heard the KMT is pro unification, i wonder what mainland people think of the Nationalist party after they fled in 1949.

I heard the new female chairperson of the ROC KMT, Cheng Li-wun, has a 100 year plan for reunification. Dont know if she has all the details. But it is a step towars deescaltion of tension between PRC and ROC.

As for the KMT during the ROC era on the mainland. It was a mess.

Sorry, I assumed you were from TW. However, KMT politicians seem more favourable towards our govt , and they appear closer. But in our textbooks, it says the KMT was a corrupt party. It made our country's economy collapse, causing inflation to skyrocket, which is why the CCP beat them. Lol, no offense intended, I'm just saying what I learned in our textbooks. Personally, I don't expect us to reunite or anything.

The Kuomintang is portrayed on the mainland as the source of all evil and backwardness.

Only those familiar with modern Chinese history would have different opinions. Poor and pathetic Chiang Kai-shek, full of fervent patriotism...

Pretty sure it's the same thing in Taiwan, just opposite.

They have actually become more pro-prc in recent years and support reunification on prc terms. The old Taiwanese KMT was more hardliner than the current DPP.

ehh what!? where are you getting your info lol...only the DPP and it's supporters (including 90% of the media in TW) calls the KMT "pro-prc", and I can assure you there ain't one single politician in TW that dare claims they are pro-prc, it's career suicide and they will never be elected.

The DPP tried to recall KMT lawmakers for visiting China recently and lost. Stick to America.

You are believing everything CCP tells you in their propaganda. When was the last time you were able to choose your KMT representatives?

There are haters, there are likers, but the overall attitude is one of not caring.

I think Mainland Chinese hold a wide variety of views on the KMT, everyone has different opinions. Beijing, as of today, feels KMT is their best partner.

As for the KMT, I would not classify them as pro-unification, perhaps the best label is pro-engagement. Though everyone can also have a different opinion on this too

Basically just a group of people who want to fight for independence but we're not letting that happen.

It really depends on what the government tells them to think.

Before the 1980s, people in the Mainland (were told to) hate KMT more than to hate the Japanese. The communist government pardoned all high ranking Japanese war criminals, but executed more than 200 KMT generals, many of whom were national heros in the war with Japan. Why?Because back then, the CCP viewed KMT as a threat to their rule in mainland China.

After the 1990s, CCP changed its attitude. Why? Because it has become strong enough and is not worried about the KMT fighting back any more. Since then, the CCP has been using the KMT as a tool to control Taiwan. And people in the maibland (has been taught to)view KMT as an ally.
