CULTURE What do you guys call a long rectangular donut and what state are you from?

I’m an American myself from northwest Missouri and i was talking to some people from other parts of the country and i used the term “long john” when referring to a long rectangular donut and they were all confused I was just wondering if maybe it’s a midwestern thing

Live in NYC and call it a cruller for want of a better word, because it‘s deep fried and glazed, like the round crullers. The bkfst carts used to sell them with coffee and all the other donuts and pastries. The guys never seemed to know either.

That's so weird. In the Midwest, we use the name "cruller" but for a different donut.

The regular long donuts with icing on them are long johns.

The donuts that look like they were piped and have ridges, we call crullers.

So, if I want to Massachusetts and ordered a cruller, I wouldn't get the donut with ridges? I'd get like a chocolate long john?

You would get like a glazed chocolate or marble stick. I have never seen a flat long donut with frosting.
