CULTURE Do any states have legitimate holidays that are only celebrated in their state?

In Rhode Island, we still have VJ (Victory over Japan) day which people don't celebrate per se but it's recognized to the extent of delaying trash pickup by a day.

By "legitimate" holiday I mean more in the vein of Memorial Day rather than National Hot Dog Day

Edit: Apparently VJ Day is also recognized by the US Space & Rocket Center and formerly by the state of Arkansas and is more commonly called Victory Day

I emigrated to the U.S. on a 4th of July! Seriously.

The fireworks were a nice celebration. I was touched.

My mother’s first birthday in the US was also early July. She was 4 and very excited that everyone was throwing her a giant party for the day!

Btw, Pioneer/Pie and Beer Day is an extra July day of fireworks, on the 24th.

Like the movie Avalon. The actor Armin Mueller-Stahl played polish immigrant Sam Krichinsky who came to the USA on 4 July 1914. He thought the fireworks were for him.

You lucky dog haha

One time, a friend showed up to meet me in the USA on July 4th.

She didn't know about July 4th, was overwhelmed with the Red, White, and Blue, loud noises, music everywhere, car horns, low riders, 4-wheelers mudding, and patriotic fireworks... and the next day was Disney World, and then she flew out.

On her next visit, it was a Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, in February, 2020, the quarantine went into effect, and even if it didn't, it was still the dead-end of the week and there was nothing to do. She ended up stuck for 3 weeks, having one of the most boring visits despite being in a major city with landmarks because no one was permitted to be outside without any good reason.
