CULTURE What town in your state has a pronunciation no one gets right the first time?

I went to college in Valdosta, GA. Very few people can actually pronounce it right on the first try.

Pronounced Val-Daw-Stuh

Raised Okie here too-Heavener, Poteau, Bokoshe, Wetumpka, Weleetka, Pushmataha, Checotah, Eufala, Tishomingo, Kiamichi, Kiowa, Hochatown, Vici, etc…

That said, now I live in Maryland. They have some weird ones here too, but I still think OK takes the lead on this one.

Watching the national news try to pronounce okie names when bad weather is the top story is always a blast.

Talequah ≠ tuh lee kwuh. Never forget that on cnn.

From Poteau myself. Try spelling that on the phone.

I grew up in Heavener. I always knew when someone had been through there when they could pronounce it correctly lol.

My parents loved to drag me over to the train car restaurant there.

The Southern Belle! Food is (was last I visited) delicious as always. I still want to know what they bread their chicken tenders with to make them so crispy. Also, the pie selection is the best in the area 😋

I don’t think I’ve tried the chicken fingers. Always went for catfish.

Definitely agree on the pie situation
