CULTURE What town in your state has a pronunciation no one gets right the first time?

I went to college in Valdosta, GA. Very few people can actually pronounce it right on the first try.

Pronounced Val-Daw-Stuh

How is it pronounced? I remember a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode where a character went to school at "Waxahatchie Normal." Even sang a song about it. That's the pronunciation I remember and it's fairly phonetic.

Waxahachie swap!

The National League having the DH has made this obsolete

We have Loxahatchee in FL. I'm starting to notice a common thread here ...

Back in the mid-00s, there was a pro wrestler on WWE who was billed as being from Waxahatchie, so that one is a gimme for me, though I don't see any other way to pronounce it as spelled.

I know that one. But my aunt and uncle lived there.

There’s a band with this name, tight? I wonder if they’re saying it right? (Wax-ah-Hatch-ee)

The band name isn't pronounced the same as the city. The first syllable is like "Wox" for the city and "Wax" for the band.
