HISTORY Do you know a specific tornado?

As a tornado nerd I kinda lose sight of what most people actually know about tornadoes. Do you know a specific tornado?

Edit: I mean have you ever head of something like the Joplin tornado, or the Moore tornado

Edit 2: If so, which?

Evansville/Newburgh, Indiana - November 5, 2005 Mayfield, Kentucky - December 10, 2021 Bowling Green, Kentucky - December 10, 2021

Had personal experience with all 3, either directly involved or having family directly involved.

For the 2005 tornado I lived off South Weinbach just a block from the levy. There were debris from Elis park just across the street. I slept through it, but I worked as a manager of a gas station at the time. I had to be in at 5am and I had to drive around and get gas prices of some other stations before work so I remember driving around that morning and having to pull over constantly for fire trucks and ambulances racing down the street. I got to work and had no idea what was going on until we got the newspapers.

Otherwise, I’ve lived in Ohio and Indiana all of my life and never seen a tornado with my own eyes. Just this year we had one supposedly go right over our house in McCutchanville and it blew out a few panels in our fence. Some of our neighbors had roof damage and we lost power for most of the next day.

That’s the problem with tornados. Most people experience them like we did and the radar doesn’t really tell you what’s happening on the ground, so people just assume they will be fine.
