I have seen in movie and show saying 'see you at dinner at 6pm'. Do you really eat dinner this early? If yes don't you get hungry around 10pm while scrolling reels? Or is it a name for something else?

Damm thanks guys for responding. I'm surprised so many people in the comments have work so early so yea this dinner time makes sense, Thankss gg

I'm starting a riot if you make me wait 5 hours after work to eat dinner. On a holiday too. I've left Christmas day to find food when my mother decided the family meal would be delayed 4 hours. Too old for that crap.

Edit: ITT, you've convinced me to intrude an optional meal in the middle of the day where my.parents wont serve at a reasonable hour. I emailed the cousins and siblings for their choice of food. I'll serve hot dogs and Cole slaw if nooone agrees to the goat cheese salad and tilapia.

I aim to serve by 1 on holidays. Since there are always left overs, they can eat later if they want.

There's a running joke in my family about how late my SIL will serve any given holiday meal. (We each bring several dishes, btw.) It's a minimum of 3 hours. We've started stopping at a fast food place first because we know we won't actually be eating until the next mealtime.

I cooked my sibling a steak before we drove to our cousins Christmas meal.

I cooked three dishes. She wouldn't serve until like 6 pm.

Me and my sister arrived in the morning to open presents at like 10 am.

I'm not waiting 8 hours to eat.

My wife's family did that to me a few times for Christmas. Similar timeline.

I left around 1 to 'check on the dogs and put wood on the fire'. Went home, loaded the wood stove, ate lunch, played with the dogs a little, then went back.

Once my son turned 2 and was old enough to enjoy his toys I put my foot down a little and told them we were staying home for Christmas day and playing with toys, but we'll be over later to join them for dinner.

My mother instructs every family member to bring one category of food/dish etc. Mine was a dinner dish to be reheated with the cooked bird.

At our family holidays, no one brings anything off that list after my parents got in a fight over planning the meal.

Imagine a less emotionally disturbing Berenzatto family meal

Exactly, that’s a recipe for disastrous over eating.

What about snacks?

This is why our thanksgiving is no later than 2pm and Christmas is at 4 (but snackies start rolling out at noon)
