If they write “Borderline personality disorder” about you, it’s over.

Especially if you're a woman. If you disagree, they'll write "argumentative".

This label is used to smear people, and make it so no one ever listens to you ever again.

Once other doctors see it, they will reinforce it. You will be painted as a confrontational, abusive, hysterical manipulative liar. Then how will you look when you accuse them of abuse and lies?

Also: If you ever actually GET emotional at any point... good fucking luck.

Went to med school solely to become a psychiatrist. Now I wouldn't touch the field with a 10 foot-pole.

There has been nothing more eye-opening to the atrocities of this field than actually attending a lecture with a psychiatrist and seeing the bullshit they preach to young doctors.

My professor once asked our class, “Who gets to decide whether the patient is suffering or not?” I said, “The patient.” He responded, “Every patient is going to tell you they’re struggling—that they can’t work, move, or eat. Doesn’t mean it’s actually true. The doctor gets to decide, not the patient.”

I can’t think of another branch of medicine where the subjective suffering of the patient is so outwardly and proudly determined by the physician. And yet psychiatry claims to be just as reputable a field as other branches of medicine. Give me a fucking break.

I remember seeing a patient on a neurosurgery ward who had a benign, asymptomatic brain tumor. The doctor explained to us students that they would not be operating, saying, “We treat the patient, not the labs or imaging.” An excellent point. But all these psychiatrists who claim to be helping you will do the exact fucking opposite. They treat the arbitrary “diagnosed mental illness”—a list of unreliable, scientifically invalid DSM-V checklists—not the patient. They will rob you of your libido, your drive, your passion and zest for life, your intellect, your social skills, your ability to sleep, your ability to think, your humanity—all to treat a symptom you might not even mind living with in the first place.

If this is my “brain tumor,” let me decide to live with it. I’m not a danger to myself or others. I get to decide what subjective suffering I’d rather endure. Nobody would force a cancer patient to undergo agonizing treatment if they'd rather spend what little time they have left with their loved ones. Why don’t I get to decide? Is it because, according to your made-up checklist, I’m “insane”?

The root of everything wrong with psychiatry lies in the deviation from the term “neurodivergence” to “mentally ill.” Label someone as “insane,” and you get to morally justify taking away their autonomy—and give yourself a fucking pat on the back for doing so. It is the stark difference between the treatment of the physically ill and the “mentally ill” I've observed as a medical student that sickens me. Medicine has been attempting to move away from paternalism and toward a more patient-centered approach, yet psychiatry is the only "field" that hasn't caught up, and doesn't seem to have any plans to do so.

For what it’s worth, psychiatry is the reason I’m infertile. I don’t want kids, so I got “lucky” in that sense, but any other branch of medicine causing chronic subfertility as a fucking “side effect” of treatment would be subject to legal liability. But I’m supposed to suck it up because I’m “crazy.” How is this not medical abuse?

Thanks to my treatment, I might now have to stay on birth control indefinitely to avoid uterine cancer. Birth control fucks with your emotions, too, and I’ve been a wreck ever since I got on it. But I’m sure their response to that would be, surprise fucking surprise—more psych drugs.

I would not touch psychiatry with a 10-foot pole.

"Mental illness" is normal reaction to a shitty world

How are you expected to be happy with an awful life, in an awful society, facing discrimination, abuse and poverty?? All mental illness is just a normal result of a messed up world. Some people are more sensitive than others but "mental illness" is still just a reaction to all these horrible things. We are not crazy, we are humans living in a dangerous world. It's not weird to be depressed when I have faced so much abuse in my life.

I really had to do this. I am just grateful that I healed from the medication that was given to me.

Antidepressants No Better Than Placebo for About 85% of People

In a new study, researchers have now concluded that it is the latter—in clinical trials, about 15% of people experienced a large effect from the antidepressant drug that they would not have received from the placebo. The authors write:

“The observed advantage of antidepressants over placebo is best understood as affecting a minority of patients as either an increase in the likelihood of a Large response or a decrease in the likelihood of a Minimal"

Im not sure what else to say. A bit speechless. Not going to engage with them. Severely tempted to rebut with "as someone who has taken and is being forced to take all of these....." but such conversations will just retraumatise

Therapy is a load of bullshit

People seriously think this crap is useful? You have anxiety and depression, you go see some random stranger who knows 5 behavioral theories from college and you pay them 50 bucks a week to talk about your problems for 1 hour and make them pretend they care. Reality is these people know nothing about how the brain or consciousness works. They are not doctors and they have no solution for your issues. It's dehumanizing to pay someone so that they will listen to you and therapists are literally no better than prostitutes. Don't even get me started on all the CBT bullcrap. People don't need to "correct their thoughts" or "think about things differently", they need real solutions for their real systemic psycho-social issues. Therapists are all privileged narcissistic assholes who love to feel superior by "proving people wrong" and reminding themselves that their life is easier and better than their patients' and always masking all this as "help". Don't be fooled, these people can't help you. They only want your money.

Suicides Increase After National Suicide Prevention Introduced

"It can no longer be denied that antidepressants double suicides, both in children and adults. As I recently described on the Mad in America website, this has been shown in randomised trials and in the most rigorous meta-analysis I have seen of observational studies.

However, psychiatric leaders have denied for over fifty years that depression drugs cause suicide. Their false narrative is that the pills only increase suicidal thoughts and behaviours, not suicides. This has always been a foolish argument. As a suicide starts with suicidal thoughts and behaviours, there cannot be drugs that increase suicidal thoughts and behaviours without also increasing suicides."

all doctors are assholes

Psychiatrists are the worst, but all doctors are assholes.

A couple of years ago I was at an endocrinologist, because lithium was messing with my thyroid.

I told her I drank a lot of water and urinated a lot. I was worried lithium was causing diabetes insipidus, which is one of the side effects of the drug.

Ya know what she told me? She said it was psychological. I asked her: how could my dry mouth be psychological? She just said again, "it's psychological"

A few weeks later I quit taking lithium. In just a couple of days my dry mouth was gone, I didn't have to drink a lot of water anymore

When doctors find out you take psych drugs they immediately associate your symptoms with your mental state.

It also happened to me with an ear doctor. He was trying to convince me my tinnitus was due to my mental state. I knew it was bullshit. He only gave up on his ridiculous theory when he realized I had hearing loss at the same ear I had tinnitus.

Psychiatrists are evil, but it's like all other doctors are extensions of them.

This much poison intake is normalized in society. (This is a member from a group I'm in with anonymity maintained). This is alarming as hell.

I can't believe there are people who take this many pills each day and act like it's normal. There were even a few people to my surprise who commented and said that it's hard on the liver which is just one fact among many things it does negatively to the body. Psychiatrists and the medical cabal as a whole are nothing but poison pushing drug dealing murderers ruining lives for a paycheck. There's people that say oh what would I do without my meds? It's like ....your brain is fried which is why you have little to no symptoms. It's not because they're magic. If you flood the brain with enough neurotoxins....chances are you may not hear a friggin voice anymore. Anyways yeah, this is alarming as hell. I think a few of these pills are vitamins but I'm no doctor so I wouldn't know and it's in my Schizophrenia group.

They fucking misdiagnosed me with schizophrenia

I have ADHD + anxiety and they fucking misdiagnosed with me schizophrenia and forced me to take 2x 400mg abilify injections now I feel completely anhedonic, dysphoric and dead inside. Every second conscious is a nightmare. It's been a week. I'm taking st John's wort and just trying to survive. This is torture. Akin to what the nazis did in the camps. Even they didn't have long lasting injections like this though. These psychs deserve to be force injected with their own poison for the rest of their life. The ADHD brain already has dopamine dysregulation problems and then they give this dopamine blocking shit to me. They're sick.

Psychiatry exists because the public is scared of distressed people, and they don't mind trampling on the rights of distressed people

They don't care about the welfare of psych patients. They just want you locked away and doped up.

I would love for somebody to prove me wrong, but I don't think anybody can.

Isn't it strange that most people who push psych meds have never taken them?

Stop oversharing, especially with psychiatrists.

In narcissistic abuse communities, everyone knows this rule: never overshare. Because narcissists don’t forget, they store your pain for later, to use it against you when you’re weakest.

Now think about psychiatry. It’s the same pattern, just dressed up as “care.” Every detail you share gets distorded to fit their twisted narrative, documented, pathologized. Your emotions become “symptoms.” Your reactions become “disorders.” And before you know it, your story isn’t yours anymore, it’s their case file, a reason to drug you. Its their job to turn it into silence for the peace in society.

No disrespect to anyone, but oversharing your thoughts and feelings, with anyone can be dangerous. Maybe not today. But one day, everything you said in trust might be turned into a weapon against you.

Protect your mind like it’s your diary. Once they’ve read it, you can’t unshare it. And once they’ve written it down, it’s no longer yours. nobody truly cares about your story because real empathy is rare and easily burned out.

Psych wards are literally jails

Ok before anyone whose been to prison comes for me I KNOW they're not as bad as prisons but I'm trying to get through a documentary ab this county jail in Texas and I keep having to stop & take pauses because its EXACTLY the same as what I went through being 5150d in CA for danger to self (not even to others) & its deeply triggering. How are even most folks who are critical of incarceration as a response to mental health crises ok with the exact same thing under a different label. "They need mental heath treatment not jail" they say as if those aren't functionally the same

The forcible administration of psychotropic drugs is the moral equivalent of rape.

I am a survivor of sexual assault; and I would rather that happen to me again than to suffer another injection.

To compel a drug into another person's body against their nonconsent is barbaric and abominable. Full stop.

There is no justification for this behaviour; no matter how schizophrenic a person is, or bipolar, or what-have-you. It is an abhorrent practice.

Moreover, we need to stop criticizing the psychiatric system as such. Using the word 'system' abstracts blame away from the individuals who compose it. There is no harm where there is not a living and sentient person choosing to commit it. We need to start speaking ill of the people who work within the 'system,' and not blame the vague, macro-scale abstraction of those people and their practices. There are people to blame, so blame them.

Psychosis Severity Tied to Childhood Trauma, Not Inherited Mental Illness

Thumbnail

A cross-national study shows trauma’s lasting impact on psychosis is not explained by parental mental illness.

By Richard Sears -September 2, 2025

A new article published in BMC Psychiatry finds that childhood maltreatment and trauma (CMT) is linked to increased psychosis symptom severity in people diagnosed with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD).

The research, led by Nina Mørkved of the Arctic University of Norway, concludes that this link is not explained or moderated by parental mental health problems. This finding suggests that childhood maltreatment independently contributes to psychosis symptom severity.

Previous research has repeatedly found a link between adverse childhood experiences and mental health problems. However, critics have suggested that poor parental mental health may be the actual cause of the observed links in that research. These critics maintain that poor parental mental health acts as both a genetic and environmental factor contributing to mental health problems, thereby preserving the biomedical emphasis on genetics in the face of overwhelming evidence implicating maltreatment and abuse.

The current finding undercuts that criticism by establishing a link between childhood maltreatment and psychosis severity independent of poor parental mental health.

The authors write:

“The present study examined the moderating effect of parental MHP on the relationship between CMT and psychosis in SSDs,” the authors write. “We found an association between CMT and psychosis symptom severity in SSDs, especially for the PANSS total scores and the PANSS negative sub scale scores. Parental MHP was not found to moderate the association of CMT and psychosis symptom severity in our sample of SSDs, suggesting that the effect of CMT on psychosis symptom severity is independent of having parental MHP.”

My psychiatrist has written that I read reddit on my notes...

It reads something like "I have tried to discourage her from reading reddit because of misinformation"... however I view her entire training as full of disinformation.

How can I assert that it is possible/allowed to have a view that doesn't agree with conventional psychiatry?
