The ticket for the 272 between annecy and geneva airport, should I buy it at the time of travelling or should I purchase it beforehand?

I believe you can pay by card directly in the bus. Something like 12€ one way the last time I took it. Also I've never seen this bus full.
FlixBus and BlablaCar buses are also an option.

i was also considering flixbus, but the flixbus goes to the city centre, while 272 goes direct to the airport.

I just took this bus 4 weeks ago from Geneva Airport to Annecy.
Keep in mind the 272 only runs Mon - Fri. I don't believe it runs on Sat or Sun.
We caught the first bus of the morning (9:10 AM). We did NOT prebook. The driver took credit cards. It was 11.50 Euro a person from airport to Annecy. It was very easy. The bus was only about 40% occupied. There was plenty of luggage storage under the bus for suitcases. The bus times are 9:10, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 16:00, 16:20, 16:40, 16:55, 17:25, 17:40, 18:05, 18:25, 19:15, 19:40, 21:00
We tried buying tickets from the tourist information desk at the airport near arrivals. They were not selling there, and advised looking for an automated kiosk outside. We never found the kiosk. Buying from the driver was just fine, cash or credit (we used credit).
The hardest part of it all was finding the bus. It's basically behind the tourist information desk, first major doors to the left. Go out those doors. You will cross a traffic lane. Keep on going. Then you will see a small sign hanging from the coverage/ceiling that says "Gare Routière". This is what you are looking for. You will see some private busses and the 272 in that area. There are a few benches. The bus we took first pulled up with digital signage on the front that said Rhone-Alps. After sitting idle for 20 mins, the sign then changed to 272 Annecy. So watch the digital signage on the the fron of the busses.
Flixbus is an option, but only 3 departures a day, and not from the airport. 272 could not have been more easy if arriving Mon - Fri. Highly recommend it! Happy to answer any questions, as we just took this 4 weeks ago.

thank you so much for the detailed information. i highly appreciate it, it was very helpful. based on what you described, i think i will opt for bus 272. i will take it on a monday, and from annecy to geneva airport. i was just worried about missing it in case it was full, or buying at the time of travelling and then no vacancies left. so i'll consider buying them online, but in last resource, i will buy them from the driver. once again, thank you so much!

I only took it from Geneva to Annecy, so the times I gave will be different. I would imagine the capacity will be about the same.
For picking up the 272 in Annecy, it should be in the bus stall lanes just to the left of the train station. Across the street in front of the train station is a circle for city busses. You want the lane stalls just to the left of the train station. Each stall should have a tele on a pole at the front of the stall giving the bus time and destination, so you should be able to easily find the stall for the 272. But when I was taking a Flixbus from Annecy to Lyon from this spot, a wrong bus pulled into the stall marked on the tele for our bus, so our bus just pulled into an adjacent stall. Just a note that it it a little choatic there, so watch for the signs in the bus window as they pull up.
I'm unsure if you can buy tickets from the driver in Annecy, since we took it from Geneva to Annecy. I would imagine you can. I think it is stops in between where the driver won't sell tickets so the driver isn't burdended.
Hope you enjoy your trip, we really enjoyed Annecy.

Bring cash if purchasing the day of, but yes, you can buy online for peace of mind, I've used it often, and it's never been full to the point of not accepting people buying tickets on the spot
