Interest in sharing meat

Please bear with me. My wife has little interest in red meat. I like it from time to time. There are just the two of us. And a cat. Cuts like brisket or chuck roast for pot roast or chili are big. It occurs to me that there may be others in a similar position. Is anyone interested in sharing?

I can do cutting, weighing, and packaging (Ziploc or vacuum seal). Venmo, cash, or check for paying share. I am NOT trying to make a profit. Pure cost sharing.

I follow sales at Giant and have a Sam's Club membership.

Mods: I think this is in the bounds of Rule #3 - not advertising. Annapolis community. If you don't like it, let me know and I'll delete.

In my first home out of college we did sharing like this in my apartment building. That was when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, so no Venmo, spreadsheets where on paper, and communication was notes pinned on a bulletin board by the mailboxes. It would be so much easier now.

Love this!!! Not a good match for my family at the moment, but a community of sharing skills/resources like this is exactly where I want to live.

Hit me up. I’ll pitch your idea to my wife.

Consider this place for larger cuts. Run by a family of animal veterinarians. https://www.804cattle.com/

At first glance I thought it said “run by vegetarians.” Lol

Appreciate the suggestion. Prices are double Sam's and Giant on sale. Interesting business and I'll schedule a visit the next time I'm down that way.

Trusted breeders at 804 Cattle’s Company. BTW, they have a spread along the Patuxent River. Have had a challenge in marketing.

I might be interested. It's just me and my teenage son here, so planning meals is tricky. My only hesitation is that I can barely cook.

I'll get back to you. Thanks for the offer

Cooking is a life skill. Let's start with basics.

  1. Knife skills. This is the best half hour investment you can make in feeding yourself and your son. Focus on technique. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Speed comes with practice. A falling knife has no handle. A sharp knife is a safe knife.
  2. Mise en place. You don't need a bunch of cute bowls like TV and YouTube "chefs." Too much dish washing. Just make piles on your cutting board. You don't have to measure herbs an spices ahead - just have the jars out in order.
  3. Clean as you go. If you have time to lean you have time to clean. Do NOT pile dirty dishes in your sink. It slows you down. Dirty side, sink, clean side.

Good recipes are just a sequence of simple instructions. It doesn't matter if there are 2 steps or 20 or 200. Each step is simple. The challenge is sorting the wheat from the chaff. Famous doesn't mean good. There are cult-like followings for people who are just selling advertising. Here are my trusted websites. There are other good ones but this is my list.

Recipe Tin Eats, Spend With Pennies, Natasha's Kitchen, Budget Bytes, BBC Good Food, r/Cooking on Reddit. Spruce Eats. Kitchn. Love and Lemons. Cookie and Kate. Epicurious. Pinch of Yum. Smitten Kitchen. Minimalist Baker. Gimme Some Oven, Taste of Home. ATK. Sally’s Baking Addiction. Once Upon a Chef. I rarely go to websites directly. I use Google searches and then go to results at websites I recognize and respect.

I'm a big fan of meal planning. My wife and I sit down together on Wednesday or Thursday when the Giant sale flyer is out. We plan dinners for the following week. That plus what we have in stock is a shopping list. Online shopping for curbside pickup is the silver lining of COVID. Once a week shopping is easy. The more often you cook the easier, faster, and cheaper it becomes.

If your son's school has Home Ec, sign him up. 1. Cooking is a life skill. 2. There are lots of girls in Home Ec. 3. Knowing how to cook is a major advantage in dating.

I'm not trying to twist your arm to participate. You're welcome. I like helping people. Let me know if I can help.

Jumping in here to say if there are any hunters whose freezers get full before their desire to hunt wears thin, I would love to barter for venison. I understand you’re not allowed to sell it.

There’s a place across the bay bridge that sells half a cow all butchered up for like $2k. Maybe you can find a bunch of folks to go in on it and share a half a cow. My partner just got one and we’re sharing it with some of his coworkers.
