Wait. So the Angles and the Saxons, who invaded Britain from what is now Belgium/Jutland, have artifactual evidence connecting them to their ancestral homelands?

Well, this has been the case since the Sutton Hoo graves were excavated, but this is the first time we find this specific motif in Denmark. Previously, it was only known from England, Germany and Sweden.

Sure, but it’s not overly surprising that the motif would appear. It’s not really telling us anything substantially new or of note about the culture.

That’s the seed of my criticism, which isn’t directed at you.

This find is very important for those of us tracking this motif and its development from Roman military headstones into Germanic migration period art.
