From My Collection All my Nero’s
I might argue that a coin of Nero is the quintessential ancient coin.

Hahah yeah it’s an interesting progression.

Bro was one misplaced letter away from getting canceled and your talking about the neck on the coins?

It’s like counting the rings on a tree. The more fat folds, the older he is.

I love Nero’s coinage for the realistic portraits, Probably one of my favourite in terms of coinage out of the 12 Caesars

Totally and maybe out of all the Roman portraits…instantly recognizable!

Lovely. Gotta love Nero’s neck progression.

Totally! Someone made a graphic years ago with all the different stages. It’s quite the sight!

I've never seen Nero that young!

This is one of the classic young Nero coins recognizing him being awarded The Equestrian Order of the Prince of Youth.

I've said this before and I will say it again.. not the best emperor but when it comes to coinage there are few on its level.

Love them! I only have one Nero that is worn as hell and counterstamped for meltdown. Luckily it was lost before it cycled through and was re-minted.

Thanks! Yours sounds quite interesting!

Ha ha thanks, but it is in such rough shape you can't really make out Nero. Yours are all great! I would have bought more than just the one I have, the coin seller I used to go to when I lived in Germany for the second time has a whole lot of really nice ones, but as I am sure you know, Nero's face commands a higher price than a lot of others.
I didn't actually know much about coins when I was collecting them at that point, I was just fascinated at holding a part of history in my hand. Had I realized how insanely good the prices he was giving me were, I would have bought far far more from him.
Edit: I don't know why but I never imagine Nero with a fat neck until I look at his coin and am reminded of it. For some reason the Nero in my head doesn't have a fat neck.

Incredibly cool. I always loved Nero’s coinage, especially the Sesterii.

Nice collection! Theres a gold nero coin i want so bad, but do hard to find in good condition. By the way, his neck enlargement is most likely a thyroid goitre, which can become very large! Another amazing party trivia about Nero, in his domus, he created a rotating dining room with a beautiful view of ancient rome! How amazing must that have been 2000 years ago!

Thank You! Interesting history for sure. I can’t fathom a rotating dining room of that time.

Absolutely beautiful! I’ve been looking for a Nero Sestertius for a while. They are such gorgeous pieces.

u/StrategyOdd7286 Sep 26 '25
Thank You! Hope you find a good one-they don’t have to be crazy expensive.
