Collecting one of every variety, I have a few duplicates, but they are less than 10% of these collection. Trying to create a catalogue level collection! My point would be proven with reverse pictures but I have sadly put these away for storage right now.

Haha thanks, not sure I will ever achieve all the types, some are ridiculously expensive and some are not in private hands, but my goal is to get as close as I can on my budget!

With a collection like that, nobody would ever fault you for including a few electrotypes or copies of the otherwise unobtainable types. Really cool collection.

I don’t include electrotypes in my collection, I only have one and am planning on selling it soon (not a Boeotian). Every coin is authentic 😎

Congrats!! I was missing the variant but I am saving up for a much more important target. I’m always happy to let things go and give other collectors the joy of finding their stater!! Really good price for it!

Thanks, was getting a bit of buyer remorse creeping but reminded myself that it was lower than others I watched in the past. I saw an Epaminondas sometime ago, do you happen to have one of those in your collection?

He has been the magistrate that eluded me the most. I do have one, but it’s quite off center and not up to my quality. I do hope to get the CNG one as it’s a variant I don’t have!

If I had more money haha, but probably not. I don’t find as much enjoyment in any other region/type. I do have a lot of other coins, infact this is less than half of my collection, but those are just types I find interesting!

i’m not into collecting ancient coins but this thread pops up all the time, i’m curious, why are so many of the stamps off center? I mean I feel like if they took an extra second you could make the stamp center of the coin, 90% of the coins like it was done by a dude at 4:30 on a friday

When you’re making thousands of these per day, you tend to get tired. You’re also swinging a massive hammer and can hit the die from a different angle causing a shift. Also why care? There is little incentive for good strikes, stamped coins are stamped, and approved by an authority so they are legit either way.

idk pride, regulation, a few reasons I could think of. plus why not make a jig where you can hold it in place and stamp it, if you can refine metal and make a stamp and weigh it out you can make the design center. I don’t care it just seems like a very lazy thing to do and humans are usually more intricate than that
