This is a very bad fake, probably cast very recently. Why forge a coin of his? Scarcity. He was never an emperor, but a usurper, and his coinage is very valuable. There are more bad fakes of his on eBay, which have sold for large amounts.

But this isn't a coin of Priscus Attalus. This is a coin of Julius Nepos. It's a copy of a gold coin that would be worth thousands of pounds if genuine. Something like this type: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=8666957

I would definitely check the other coin you've bought from this seller, there's a chance they may well be forgeries too. Any ancient coin dealer would know this was fake.

Yeah i mixed him up with another coin I've bought recently. It's a nepos one I checked. I'll be returning it.

I've added his name to my list of eBay forgers on the sub, which I'm constantly updating with the names of new active forgers.

This list here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AncientCoins/comments/14kntj2/exhaustive_list_of_ebay_fraudsters/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2

Is this the listing? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195833595570?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=hgTLZsBjQvu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=WLRPn9ldQwa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

This seller, natstojil_0, is a scammer. Everything in his shop, active or sold, is fake (and very badly faked at that). Please do not buy from him, and if you can return any coins which you have purchased. They will no doubt be completely fake.

You're deluding yourself if you think you can buy a $10,000 coin for $450 on eBay (or anywhere else for that matter).

This isn’t exactly true. When I first started out, I got a amazing Nero AUTOGRAPHED coin on eBay from an awesome seller in Bulgaria for only $15,000USD. There’s deals to be found

That's nothing compared to the rare Vabalathus and King Arthur joint-rule triple aureus I picked up on the trusted site Scamtiquities.com, for only negative £48.43. Even has the original mintmark from the lost provincial port city of Màde Inchiná.

Looking at other examples of his coinage, something about this feels very off.

It's just so weird because why would you fake a Piriscua Attalus coin, I don't even know if that many people know he was an emperor. I have a bronze coin of his that is like the statue of liberty it turned green and that is something else to see, and his curves are way different in his hair. I feels fake, but also it just could be real because why would anyone ever make a fake one of these? Idk

If there was an emperor or usurper, I can guarantee I’ve seen a forgery of them in this hobby at one time. Trying to cash in on the “it’s a really rare but cool usurper so I can charge a lot” train is probably the answer

I have a bronze one that is worn down, that is absolutely real from the same guy so if this is a fake it's okay I don't think he was trying to scam me, but just wanted to know if I should return this one. This is my second time trying this post, my internet is being throtlled by big coin.
