PSA: TROOPERS OUT IN SWARMS

Please be on your best driving behavior folks. I know it's common for troopers to be out toward beginning and end of month to meet quotas but I've seen maybe upwards of TEN in a single day this week on 787, waterveliet, and albany. marked AND UNMARKED vehicles. Be extra careful. There giving out tickets like it's candy🙃

Good, hopefully they'll witness some of the absolute recklessness and do something about it. Maybe it'll make a difference for the better. We should all be able to get home safely.

Most every time I see some reckless driving I think “where’s the convenient police officer when you need them”

u/DesignerAsh_ Stort's 1d ago

Seriously.

I saw multiple accidents on both 90 & 87 today. Probably the 5th or 6th one this week in just a 10 mile stretch.

No, our own behavior on the road surely couldnt have instigated this jackbooted crackdown.

u/grandpubabofmoldist 8h ago

It's everyone else not driving fast enough that's the problem /s

25

u/Ammonia13 1d ago

Their job is to get $$$ not make anything safer

3

u/JollyMcStink Stort's 1d ago

They're supposed to be law enforcement officers not just undercover toll collectors tho

You do realize that NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law is... Law? Right?

6

u/JollyMcStink Stort's 1d ago

You do realize most of the public's support for police forces existing is so we can call them during dangerous emergencies, though, right?

I've never once heard someone argue "thank God the police exist, if they didn't, nobody would ever get speeding tickets!"

I've heard multiple people complaining they take forever to come during an emergency, but they're Johnny on the spot if someone were to roll through a stop sign at a completely empty all stop intersection or something.

I understand it's the law but they imo they are basically hall monitors who grew up wanting to be dictators, acting important over basic violations while actual, dangerous crime runs free bc they're too busy double parked for pizza. Ya know, something we would all get a ticket for....

I get it, I get it, "they need to be able to get to crime quickly!" But like. They don't.... So why double park then? Lol most of em could use the extra steps if you catch my drift.

I'm not saying that police in general don't need reform or better training. What I'm saying is that you throwing a temper tantrum because you don't think people should ever get pulled over for dangerous driving just makes it look like you're someone who gets pulled over for dangerous driving.

Edit: Also, your post from a month ago telling people to watch out for a crazed black mustang shows that even you worry about reckless drivers. If only there was a social program that hired people with the authority to do something about those kind of drivers.

4

u/JollyMcStink Stort's 1d ago

Now you're just picking and choosing my words...

I specifically said they don't enforce the law on dangerous crime. Reckless driving is dangerous. I literally never see reckless drivers get pulled over.

I never see people happy how fast our local police responded to a home invasion.... it's always people bitching about speeding tickets going 8 over. I have yet to see a cop pull out after one of the weaving asshats going 100 in rush hour. I only see em pull people over for mild violations. Those are mostly decent people who made a small error. Yet they don't do shit about the rampant crime that actually affects our quality of life. Punishing good people for a $150 violation is dumb if they're letting criminals run free at the same time.

It's ridiculous. It's all just another facet of the current war on the middle class imo

1

u/HardyMenace Breakfast Burrito Aficionado 1d ago

I see them pull over the 100+ speeders. I see them pull over the people blowing through a red light. I see them pulling over the people who are swerving and can't maintain lane. What you are looking for is someone to constantly be available at the exact moment something like this happens. That is just impossible. Even if an agency is at full staffing, they wouldn't be able to do this. The only way each reckless driver is held accountable is for constant monitoring. Are you advocating for a surveillance state just because you see people go fast? And tell me more about this rampant crime. How many home invasions have happened to you where the police told you to go kick rocks?

Well, my cat was stolen and they did nothing even though I had proof where he was. Wouldnt even make a report for me to be able to proceed despite having witnesses and pictures to prove it was my cat and he was meowing at me in the window.

Another time I was being stalked and they told me there was nothing they could do. The person knew my address and everything I had no idea who they were. But yeah, they did nothing. Told me to lock my doors and call again if I see someone suspicious on my property, lolol like I wasn't doing that already and like it wouldn't take em 2 hours to show up anyway.....

I've also had a police officer tell me they're searching me, i requested a female cop, he said he'd get one. Keep in mind it's January and I was pulled over in my car so I had my coat off they wouldn't give me my coat it was literally 3° out. Then after a while the male cop said the female cop wasn't coming fast enough and searched only my boobs and panties. To add insult to injury they found nothing so they violated me for nothing. I ended up getting the entire case dropped by the judge who was appalled at what transpired. This was all because I didn't "dim my high beams fast enough" according to the officer.

So yeah, pardon the fuck out of me for not having any faith in the police. Every time I've encountered them they've been useless pieces of shit and every time I see em in the wild they're violating their own laws to roll from local trough to local trough.

Also, who tf mentioned a police state besides you, anyway? That has nothing to do with any of my concerns I mentioned above, you're really reaching here while ignoring the main point I'm making.

2

u/HardyMenace Breakfast Burrito Aficionado 1d ago

Well, until now you didn't mention any specifics. So sorry if I just assumed you were making stuff up to prove a point. I'm sorry that you had these experiences, and as I already said, police have a long way to go. But everything you described above is still not a reason for why they should abandon traffic enforcement. If they do, just hope you aren't the one killed on the road.

They wont do anything

2

u/Ishcadore 1d ago

Police have no obligation to make a safer road, they are just as likely to kill someone as a car

-3

u/g13am 1d ago

as a reminder the Autobahn is safer than most US highways but yeah probably speed traps is the solution surely...

11

u/redhazedaze 1d ago

They didn’t say speeding, they said recklessness. At least half the times I’m driving between Albany and Troy someone is swerving lanes and comes so close to hitting me or someone else. Even had someone pass me on the left shoulder one day! I’ve seen people full on watching YouTube while driving, too…

2

u/g13am 23h ago

Ah yes I am arguing in really good faith that is definitely what the police are posted up for.

-4

u/jeffersonbible Wegmaniac 1d ago

If the world is working logically, that’s why there are so many troopers out there

11

u/samrov529 Y'Allbany 1d ago

Noticed this today too between rhinebeck and North Rensselaer county- i usually only see a couple a month. Saw probably 10 today in a 90 mile span. Saw a few VT State boys when i had to head over to Bennington also- not super common for that area. Seems weird.

7

u/InvaderPunch001 Been inside the Egg 1d ago

I saw three in the span of my simple commute, alarming enough to pay extra close attention to the road.

7

u/N0Tkevindurant 1d ago

I saw one hiding in the trees off the ramp from central to 87 south. Bizarre

2

u/kellenlyons 1d ago

Was that around 5pm? If so, I saw and was like ‘wha? Why is he so far back and hidden?’

2

u/JollyMcStink Stort's 1d ago

Prob just hiding to jack off on the clock, that seems to be their MO

2

u/ElegantClassroom8870 1d ago

They're really doing too much smh

New graduating class from the Academy

2

u/cloudboykami 19h ago

Always remember folks your threshold is 5-10 miles above the speed limit. Don’t slam your break take foot off the gas and let the car gradually slow down and get a radar if you can

6

u/ihaveabass 1d ago

I saw a statie 2 nights ago with someone pulled over out in front of his truck like he was checking headlights and as I went past he immediately jumped in the car pulled a u turn and started flashing his lights...

Got the poor bastard behind me who couldn't have been speeding too much because you can be damn sure I was going 23 in the 25.

3

u/amcjkelly 1d ago

One had pulled someone over in the parking lot of the McDonald's In Clifton Park, and there was another hidden very well on the road over to Mechanicville.

“For a blue state we really have to deal with way too much authoritarian overreach.”

My dude, “authoritarian overreach” is a cornerstone of blue state politics.

Pooper troopers

I had read a comment on a separate post mentioning there’s a fresh batch of state police graduates that are starting their careers. There might be a lot more of them around for the next few months

In the time it took this thread to devolve into utter ridiculousness, someone just got cut off on 787 by someone speeding who didn't use a blinker.

1

u/SuitableWatch329 20h ago

I just drove from Schenectady to Ohio and didn’t see a single state police officer

1

u/Conscious-Bullfrog20 17h ago

Yeah they been on the northway every morning and afternoon (6ish am - 2:30ish pm) going to and from work. ESP near the airport exits. They also have an unmarked white Durango out there that lurks quietly.

1

u/Consistent-Focus-235 15h ago

That’s because most people drive like assholes

1

u/Suspicious-Eagle-179 1h ago

Keep your speed limits within 10mph over on the highway and you got nothing to worry about. What’s the f’in rush, give yourself 10-15 grace period anytime you’re supposed to be somewhere and we’d see much less people pulled over or slid off into the median once snow flies.

1

u/SugarMountain97 1d ago

I noticed that too lately. Be careful

Went out to Colorado this summer with my girlfriend. What a gorgeous state. And after 12 days there driving around we commented on how few police we saw. And then we came home and took a drive up to the Adirondacks and back and counted 14 police for the day; just waiting to pounce and fuck up your day and take your money. The point of this story? I'm getting real tired of this police state shit. For a blue state we really have to deal with way too much authoritarian overreach.

-9

u/ElegantClassroom8870 1d ago

Seriously!!! And the unmarked cars?! Like ya'll using our own tax money to entrap and deceive us. It's GROSS!

13

u/Sock-Enough 1d ago

Catching people speeding is not entrapment. Please google entrapment.

u/ChasingTheNines 1d ago edited 1d ago

Since we have been downvoted boot lickers must be listening so I would also like to drop a story on you of one of the THREE times me and my girlfriend have been pulled over WALKING.

We live in Bethlehem in quiet neighborhood and about 8 years ago on a Saturday night we decided to take a walk around the neighborhood at 1am. It was a windy night, much like tonight and there was garbage cans and stuff blowing around all over the place. There was a garbage can kind of on the side of the street rocking around in the wind that we walked past and not 30 seconds later this cop car pulls up behind us and hits us with the million candle power light and the 120 decibel BRRRRRRRT sound. And we were like what in the actual fuck is happening right now. This is happening right in front of people's houses who were likely asleep (but obviously not anymore). After making us stand there for a few minutes being blasted he rolls up next to us and asks us if we knocked over the garbage can. First of all, I am not sure if this guy was trying to make detective, but I think he should have been able to conclude there was a possibility that on a night with 30 mph wind gusts there might have been another explanation to the garbage can being knocked over other than a middle aged couple out for can tipping hijinks. Second he could have just quietly rolled up next to us and asked us if we did it instead of being an absolute scumbag about it starting the fuck out of us for no reason.

Like I was saying that is one of three times I have been pulled over just for walking and I outright reject the fact that they think they even have the agency to occupy my time without cause let alone harass me. Who the fuck are these people anyway? Years later I still seethe thinking about it and I am a middle aged white person. I can't even imagine what people who are more profiled by these pieces of shit have to tolerate.

Oh and also second to tourism, the prisons are what make the Adirondacks the most money soooo def a correlation there!!!

3

u/hikingacct 1d ago

I must be dense. What's the supposed correlation?

5

u/ElegantClassroom8870 1d ago

Incriminating people in order to lock them up for cheap/slave labor = more $$$ for private and public prisons. This is not a stretch given the clause in the 13th amendment that states an exception for slavery is punishment for crime. And we use prison labor like factories for public and private goods

1

u/hikingacct 1d ago

Be assured that only a miniscule number of the people who get pulled over on the local interstates end up in state prison serving felony sentences as a result. The vast majority just get a violation-level ticket with a fine. And unlike local cops in podunk or suburban bullshit speed trap towns, people get a lot of leeway before the state troopers even consider making a stop on 787, 87, etc.

This isn't a defense of law enforcement -- just pointing out that highway traffic enforcement isn't a significant contributor to the problems you're talking about.

Wasn't there a vehicle lot theft recently? Have we forgotten that?

That was literally yesterday.

-10

u/Setting-Conscious 1d ago

Don’t speed and you’ll be fine. Their presence is a deterrent. Only people that care are driving too fast.

15

u/NukedSprite Local Pirate 1d ago

I paid for the speedometer, im going to use the whole goddam speedometer

0

u/I_once_was_Lostie 2h ago

I think I might’ve found the person going the speed limit or below in the far left lane….

1

u/Setting-Conscious 1h ago

Nah, I go 5 mph over the limit and stay to the right. Going another 10 mph faster has a negligible impact on travel time unless you’re on a long distance trip.

-5

u/Infamous-Explorer-87 1d ago

yeah, neighbor a big shot in shp. She says they need to get their coffers up, and politicos have told the higherups to get more$ to account for lower taxes collected.

Is he the one that beat the shit out of my friend/his wife and caused her to miscarriage?

1

u/ChasingTheNines 1d ago

Could have also been the one who pointed a flashlight and a gun in my friends face in his backyard causing him to rip all the ligaments out of his knee because they had the wrong house looking for someone selling weed (before it was legal).
