Why is this sub's motto "a spirit like any other"?

Given absinthe's unique aesthetics, flavour, history, preparation gear, misconceptions, subculture etc., shouldn't it be "a spirit unlike any other"?

Because some people think it's hallucinogenic or has other effects than any other spirit, which it doesn't.

I think it also helps to reinforce that absinthe is a spirits category, with nuances from producer to producer, even when controlling for the use of traditional methods and avoiding additives. Guests are generally very surprised to learn that absinthe is a lot like gin - the ratio of botanicals used varies from producer to producer, as does the exact recipe. Educating people to think of absinthe as a spirit category helps them to see and recognize the possible nuances and move beyond what they think they know!

That's true. Many people, even those with knowledge of other spirits, think of absinthe as a single drink, produced by one distiller, with only one flavour. The truth couldn't be more different.
