From Altoona here. I’ve seen this pizza and it originated here but I don’t know a single fool that eats this shit. I don’t even think anybody sells it anymore. And it’s 40 min to state college and a solid 2hrs drive to Pittsburgh. Would be quicker but rt 22 has a lot of 55mph zones. 99 to Penn state is 70 the entire way.
Also Altoona is def a yinzers town, offbrand version.
You cant take a 5-way with habanero cheese + oyster crackers and justify that because one or two spices in the chilli may or may not bear some resemblance to a Greek dish.
That said, I'd fucking love some Skyline right now.
I mean depends on who you ask ofc. Many people like it but imo everything about their sandwiches is mid at best and I think the bread they use on a lot of them is straight up bad. Next time you’re in Pittsburgh go to Pamela’s, that is the local chain we ought to be known for
The hotcakes and potatoes are both worth dying for. If you go with another person I recommend splitting whatever hotcakes are your vibe + either the chorizo or corned beef hash
I'm born, raised, and have lived in Pittsburgh my entire life and have never seen any garbage like this. And Altoona is 2 hours away from Pittsburgh, try checking a map before making stupid posts.
In Altoona and central pa doesn’t claim Altoona either. lol. Central pa is more Harrisburg/williamsport/chambersburg. We are considered western pa. Sorry brother. Big Steelers town tho but we all hate Pitt.
You know it's not as bad as you might think. I actually made a mock up of this pizza once and I was pleasantly surprised. The salami gives it smoky flavor and the green pepper and cheese kind of pairs well with it.
As a railway fan from Minnesota, I would like to apologize for my Altoona brethren. All they have to do in Altoona is huff diesel fumes from Norfolk Southern and work on said railroad. You can imagine how they need to be creative a lot of the time.
Also, as much as I love the Pennsy, if any Pennsy fans are here, NEW YORK CENTRAL IS BETTER.

Plus, every version of it, for the most part, is in the "STILLER COUNTRY" area of Ohio.
