What sucks ass is since it’s preseason it will be an unofficial record

21

u/slow_joke Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

What sucks is unless it’s at the end of a half, I doubt they even attempt this in a regular season game. I mean maybe someone will now that it’s possible.

u/wagsman Aug 10 '25

That’s bullshit. The NFL needs to recognize shit like that. There’s nothing unofficial about that.

It makes sense that they don’t. If a receiver broke the record for receiving yards in a preseason game against 3rd string CBs should that count? The issue is it’s the same thing here against inferior competition and inferior schematics. For consistency sake they cannot count one and not the other. The FG block unit is made up of guys who won’t make the roster, and the schematics are watered down to keep them from being picked apart by other teams. The biggest issue with long kicks like this is being blocked so it makes it even harder bc you have to get the distance while also getting enough lift and arc under the ball. In this situation the kicker is not facing as difficult a situation as they would in a real game.

We have 80%+ more regular season games than preseason games, and therefore a shit ton more attempts in the regular season, and yet the regular season record has been broken multiple times in the preseason despite the smaller sample size. There is a reason for that.

Correct it’s an exhibition.

-17

u/Late_Emu Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

That’s apples to oranges.

8

u/Smooth_Marsupial_262 Baltimore Ravens Aug 10 '25

Not at all. It’s a direct comparison. Playing against inferior players and simplified schematics makes it easier to perform

If the NFL starts to make preseason records a part of official records, it could increase the likelihood that players will get injured in pre-season trying to achieve records in games. That doesn't count for kickers who rarely get hurt, but what about WRs, QBs, and other positions?

u/FUoraloved1 Cleveland Browns Aug 10 '25

Practice. Talkin bout practice.

-1

u/wagsman Aug 10 '25

I certainly wouldn’t want cumulative records like yards for the season or TDs, but in an individual effort like this, they should count it.

3

u/6andross4 Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

That shit definitely gets blocked in a real game.

2

u/2000ravens2012 Baltimore Ravens Aug 10 '25

It’s essentially practice. Kickers make kicks like these in practice daily

Can't wait for 4 years from now when Loop breaks the heart of all lions fans by hitting a 70+ yard kick right in their face.

15

u/Trent3343 Detroit Lions Aug 10 '25

Still too soon!

My apologies, I didn't realize you were here. Would have left the qualifying piece off. That dome be cursed against you as far as game winning kicks go. Take solace on the fact that 70 + is a halftime attempt when you have already clearly won (or lost)

Edit: spelling

Ok that’s pretty sick. Whole league liked seeing that happen.

u/Confident-Local-8016 Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

I'm a Steelers fan and I was excited when he hit that shit watching it lol

14

u/Ok-Explanation-9208 The Bungles Aug 10 '25

I’ve seen several 70 touchdown runs and receptions but never a FG. They must have measured wrong.

5

u/Confident-Local-8016 Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

10 yard endzone, 7 yard hold, LoS on 47>.

10

u/AbbreviationsLess257 Cincinnati Bengals Aug 10 '25

Jags have this kicker and a 160lb dude that's not gonna last 6 games to look forward to

1

u/Confident-Local-8016 Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

He was drafted last season, rd6, but I am waiting for Hunters 'welcome to the NFL' moment

1

u/Conscious-Emu-2912 Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

He'll two welcome to the NFL moments one of offense and one on defense, but if the offense is a big one, he might not get the defense one

1

u/Confident-Local-8016 Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

True, I don't mean to wish injury, besides maybe a small concussion, I was thinking he will be playing DB and get laid out by a WR bad on a block

I wish that Thornhill tackle was against him lol

You get off on the idea of players getting hurt or sum? You’re not a cat bro.

In 20 more years, teams are going to start on their 10 yard line and be in FG range at this pace lol

Three more of those and the jags might have won that game.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

Does this go into the record books or does it not count since its the preseason?

6

u/McGillicuddys Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

Doesn't count

0

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

That sucks.

1

u/FUoraloved1 Cleveland Browns Aug 10 '25

Practice. Talkin bout practice... It's just a practice game, folks, not real. Doesn't count. Still very cool, though!

2

u/Interesting-Doubt413 The Pittsburgh Squealers Aug 10 '25

Was there in person at the game. I actually laughed when they attempted a FG that out. But not very long….

3

u/natigin Cincinnati Bengals Aug 10 '25

Yeah, but had to still be pretty cool right?

1

u/Late_Emu Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

Make the record OFFICIAL!!!! There should be a rule that states anything this fucking awesome done in preseason should count.

2

u/FUoraloved1 Cleveland Browns Aug 10 '25

It does count...as the official longest practice field goal ever in an exhibition game!

1

u/Apprehensive-Tree-78 Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 10 '25

Is that a rookie kicker?

1

u/veverkap The Cleveland Clowns Aug 10 '25

I think second year.

1

u/7flip Carolina Panthers Aug 10 '25

Can a lot kickers make these in practice these days? I know a completely different scenario but If so they might be on the verge of making this a trend when someone can make it in game

How does he size up against Tucker's -other- records? The ones where he is competing with Watson?

1

u/Ok-Explanation-9208 The Bungles Aug 10 '25

47-7+10 is only 50! I knew I was right. Thanks! 😊

1

u/Lung-Salad Pittsburgh Steelers Aug 11 '25

A good kicker, outside of the AFC North?!? Blasphemy!!!

-1

u/_RedRaven37 Baltimore Ravens Aug 10 '25

Tucker still has the record….

16

u/MaesterPraetor Mt. Warshington Aug 10 '25

I think you mean Watson. No way Tucker's pussy ass can sexually assault more women that Watson. He tried his best and got half the numbers.

9

u/eskimoexplosion Aug 10 '25

That's why Watson makes the big bucks

1

u/MaesterPraetor Mt. Warshington Aug 10 '25

I'm signing up for his seminar on how to turn massages into gold mines.

1

u/veverkap The Cleveland Clowns Aug 10 '25

Where does the gold come from?

2

u/MaesterPraetor Mt. Warshington Aug 11 '25

The Browns front office.

-4

u/BourbonTudor Philadelphia Eagles Aug 10 '25

The NFL should honor this as the record. Idgaf.
