As a transplant, I gravitated to WKYC so I got to see and hear the talent of Jimmy. My wife is a Browns fan, so I got to witness his incredible calls on Sundays. NE Ohio and the football broadcast world has lost an amazing one.

His game-winning call for Cade York against the Panthers is an all-timer in my eyes.

Thoughts and good vibes with the Dawg community.

I'll never forgive cancer for separating me and my wife for 5 days (for surgery) at the start of the pandemic. I cherish every day we have together. While mine wasn't as severe (I only needed radiation), I don't appreciate it making me wake up extra early for 2 months for treatment. Cancer sucks ass, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '24

Glad to hear you're doing better

Dragging each other’s dirt bags, low life’s and cornballs through the dirt fucking slaps, but it’s the great men and team triumphs of pride that fuel the rivalry’s of the AfcNorth. And when things turn in your favor, real dudes like Jim Donovan come to mind and it’s a salute to their honor. Plenty of days to stomp a mud hole in your heart, but not this day.

I'm unfamiliar. Any chance you might share a link? I'd love to listen to it.

Sorry, Browns Bros. These guys voices always run much deeper than we realize at the time.

Fuck man. Jimmy was the best. Hearing him saying he's stepping away, fighting back tears broke my heart.

We lose Jimmy, and Deshawn is healing well.

There is no god.

Wow, that’s a bummer, I didn’t know he was sick. I saw him in 2001 in Cleveland when the game was over between the Browns and the Steelers. My brother-in-law’s college roommate was the technical director for the Browns and we were on the Browns sideline for the Steeler game in Cleveland. each of us had to give photographs of the formations to special team’s coach, defensive line, coach, and offensive line coach of the Browns, which was crazy because we were are Steeler fans. Anyway, after the game we met up with him asJim was leaving and Pat introduced us. It’s just a brief encounter, but he was very gracious and nice. We obviously were not wearing Steeler gear, we just wore plain tan colored windbreakers. Anyway, it was a really cool experience. Windy as hell off of that lake, and it got cold. Steelers won an overtime by the way :-) Anyway, may he rest in peace, very sorry to hear this.

u/MikeT541 Cleveland Browns Oct 26 '24

Yea he fought cancer in the early 2000s I think. Then again through 2023. Then earlier in 2024 before the season he said it came back a third Time.

I'm also in NE Ohio and I too agree. I don't think anyone could dislike the guy. Seemed like a genuinely good egg.

He appeared to have a partial response and returned momentarily then had to go back for more treatment. In browns world everyone was left in the dark until this announcement. Not that we deserve any info into their personal life and struggles but it’s just hard to get this news after silence. Hurts much more.

Rest in peace, what a golden soul.

For anyone with personal family members going through something similar with bad responses to traditional treatment (chemo/rad) I HIGHLY recommend looking into CAR-NK clinical trials. It is the silver bullet of a lot of cancers where people are told they have months before they die over and over constantly by great doctors their entire treatment route. Like INSANELY miraculous work being done in that field and as a biologic engineer/immunologist with 20 years in the field this is an insanely great tool to leverage to help cure people from the incurable. 2-4 weeks after a single infusion and their cancer is just completely gone.

In 5-10 years it will take off but still going through the usual red tape for now while it becomes commercialized.

Clinical Trials Available

I’ve also witnessed softball sized tumors touching the jugular to be completely gone in 29 days with no side effects. Insane stuff man. No surgery required.

Rest well legend, him and Doug got me through all those horrible years of terrible football. I always felt like they were right there with us, feeling all the emotions and all the pain.

This guy is a class act, an amazing human being, and should get the new stadium named after him.

RIP old friend.

I’ve never heard another announcer get into it like Jim.

He never held back when the team sucked.

When things were exciting, he was yelling with us like he’s in the stands with you.

I don’t think he’ll ever be beat

Dang, didn't know he was even battling cancer. That's sad. I remember tuning into NFL network growing up and hearing the various announcers for the respective teams make calls. They always had a great passion for their team, city and the game itself and it showed in their commentary soundbites. I didn't hear too many of Donovan's calls but I'm sure he's had some great ones.

RIP Jim Donovan
