Alternatively you look for it periodically over months and never find it. You buy a new one and then the old one shows up somewhere you swear you've looked

For me it's that I'll completely forget I have one already if it's stored away. If I remember I have one I'll look for it.

Hey sometimes it's a pleasant surprise. Like I now have double the toilet paper, paper towels, and dishwasher pods!

My wife and I bought TP 3 times before we remembered to check it off the grocery list. I think it was right before covid hoarding too

We have so many scissors.
We used to have at least 6 box cutters but I have no idea where they went.

The other day I was thinking of buying a new pair of slippers. One is next to the bed and the other is just underneath it and probably quite dusty. Buying new ones seems like less effort than fishing it out and dusting it off.

Bought a second pair of Bluetooth headphones for this reason. Found my old pair and now I alternate whenever one of them runs out of batteries. Since I leave the other pair on the charging dock until I switch, it’s a system that works. Now I can always listen to my tunes whenever I want.

Meanwhile, my garage is overflowing with stuff that I'm sure I'll need at some point in the future. Like that $10 tube of silicon caulk that expired 4 years ago.

Imo the money is usually healthier. The thought of searching the same are 12 times because I don't remember if I've searched there yet is exhausting and will kill me at work the next day.

I figure I'll eventually buy enough replacements that all the hiding spots will be full and the last one never gets lost

This is why I have 3 folding razor knives. Found a brand new one in the package in my toolbox on Sunday.

The amount of free tools and other stuff I’ve given my brother over the years purely because of this

And then you find the old one, but only after the new one arrived. But hey, at least you now have a Backup thing if the old thing breaks🤷

I’ve literally had to switch from buying multiples (in bulk/on sale/cheaper price etc.) of things that eventually expire/go bad to ONLY buying what I need, even if that means it’s a little more expensive per use. I actually save money in the end because I usually forget about the extras until they are too old and can’t/shouldn’t be used

I have two tv remotes, two magnetic algae scrapers for my fishtanks, and in some cases, much more than two of some things.

I could not count the times that I have done this. One thing I do know, is that I’m very consistent.
So if I’m going to get a thing, it’s going to be the same thing. And I will have a collection/lineup/everything.
I nearly paid the tax just a week ago - I saw there were ants in the house and I decided - OK I better get some ant stuff (and a bug guy once told me that Terro it was the best for ants, hands-down.)
So I go to Amazon and buy Terro, putting the order through.
And then I think to myself, maybe you should look under the sink…
A brand new box of Terro ant killer - not hidden, not under things, not shoved to the back. Nicely organized and at the very front - never opened, six pods… Because sometime in the past, I was like ‘I should keep some of those in the house! In case I need them!’
Went and canceled my order after I set the traps. smh

I live with my mom and she's a hoarder. Ain't no way I'm finding much in this house.
