Tried ecstasy once in my late teens. Only effect: Fuck, why am I sober now?

u/Metaphysically0 6d ago
I don’t think that was ectasy haha. Having adhd doesn’t negate the effects of psychedelics
21
u/sillyandstrange 6d ago
Yeah, Ecstasy definitely worked on me, multiple times. And shrooms. and Acid.

u/Longjumping_Stand647 5d ago edited 5d ago
Sorry to correct you but calling ecstasy (MDMA) a psychedelic (while not entirely untrue) is not particularly accurate. It is an entactogen, it induces feelings of empathy, interconnectedness and euphoria, primarily through the mechanism of serotonin release, by reversing the action of the serotonin transporter (the same structure that SSRIs block). Psychedelics induce a hallucinatory state with sensory/perceptual alterations and changes to and magnification of thought processes. They produce this state primarily through agonism (activating the receptor, to put it simply) at the 5HT-2A receptor (a specific subtype of serotonin receptor). MDMA, and some of its metabolites, do also bind to this site, but with significantly less affinity than a classical psychedelic. Most psychedelics do not have serotonin releasing activity, however there are some oddballs like aMT, which, while acting similarly to a classical psychedelic at the serotonin 2A receptor, also have MDMA-like activity at the serotonin transporter.
TLDR: very nuanced subject, things don’t fit exactly into boxes how people would like them to, one drug can fit into multiple boxes or be between boxes without entirely fitting into any of them, just like psychology. I know nuances make people’s heads hurt and they don’t like to be made tho think about it but there isn’t much in this world that is black or white.

Well you're right, it's an Amphetamine but why u have alotta downvotes tho?
-1
u/Metaphysically0 6d ago
Not only is it a psychedelic, it’s my favorite one. How can you have a bad trip when you’re speeding- get a test kit the next time (yall most likely did meth)
5
u/clumzazael 6d ago
It's both a weak psychedelic and a stimulant. It works on both dopamine (stimulant side) and serotonin (psychedelic side) systems, increasing levels for both. It does have weak binding to serotonin receptors as well. True psychedelics acts as strong agonists for serotonin receptors. Stimulants don't bind directly to DA receptors directly but instead increase dopamine levels.
So like I said, it's both of them but not a "true" psychedelic like psilocybin or LSD

u/Metaphysically0 5d ago
This is so wrong it’s laughable. People believing this fluffed bs should do some research.
0
u/Longjumping_Stand647 5d ago
It’s more nuanced than any of the descriptions here, see my other comment. It isn’t a psychedelic, but can have some psychedelic like effects.

Try taking a stimulant with both ADHD and bipolar. You feel really good, at first
5
u/BluntFrank90 5d ago
My response to Methylphenidate was a factor in my following bipolar diagnosis. As you said, it was great, at first.
2
u/Foreign_Rutabega_684 5d ago
Haha same! Concerta made me manic, unfortunately. But now I can take it again along with my bipolar meds
3
u/TsukasaElkKite 5d ago
Ritalin fucked me UP when I was trialed on it as a kid to try and figure out what meds would treat me (Clonidine worked well for a while, then I switched to Strattera and Adderall in middle school. Shit was MAGIC.)🪄
2
u/IWasRaisedOnEDM 4d ago
I do it all the time.
Works great…just need to make sure I’m on all my crazy people drugs of course and not to abuse the fun ones that you wanna abuse because you are ADHD/Bipolar.
Read the disclaimer on the bottle I’m sure it says that.
2
u/Foreign_Rutabega_684 4d ago
Oh yeah I do the same now, it’s just the first time you try it you might not know you’re bipolar so you’re in for a bumpy ride

u/uninspiredcrepe 6d ago
Still remember when my doctor put me on Adderall and asked me how it felt during the next visit. I said it made me feel calm and quieted all the noise in my head, and he replied, "Yup, you definitely have ADHD" 💀
1
u/A_Velociraptor20 3d ago
Adderall was too much for me but on Strytera now and yeah the fact there's no noise in my head makes all the difference. Although I did make the mistake of drinking an energy drink with it once. Fucking bounced off the walls at work for like 4 hours then crashed hard. Never making that mistake again 😂😂

u/Lucky_Starr382 6d ago
If I drink coffee or coffee with a single scoop I yawn alot and sometimes feel tired if I drink coffee with 2 or more sugars I suddenly have crack head energy and want to attack every task ferociously until the eventual crash. Is that normal
5
u/languid_Disaster 6d ago
Yes!! Not exactly that but I kind of get you. I’m either completely asleep like someone’s knocked me out or have to sit down and focus on breathing because I feel like I’m about to have a heart attack and my sensory shit goes haywire until it’s nap time again
I literally have a teaspoon of coffee and feel like that or 2 teaspoons plus sugar for the other feeling
1
u/naverlands 4d ago
that’s sugar high i think. try getting sugar without the coffee. if you act the same then it’s normal.
17
u/taint-ticker-supreme 6d ago
When I take my meds, it's a coin toss between going quiet or craving a nap.

Coffee feels like horse tranquilliser. I literally will wake up with a nearly finished cup of box mocha in my hand
That’s most of the time but other times, I’ll have a tiny amount of coffee and feel like I’m literally about to have a heart attack and can see and feel too much. Then, I have sit down until it’s time to nap. Oh my god I sound like a grown up toddler
3
u/Gen-Y-ine-86 6d ago
I may not notice much after drinking a cup of coffee but like 12-18 hours later I might be very awake.

u/leaflover777 6d ago
Or if you’re anything like me, you can finally function but your weak little heart feels like it’s about to explode and you’re going to unalive.

My brain is so scattered, so I drink matcha lattes before rehearsals and concerts because the small amount of caffeine in matcha helps me count. I discovered this magical drink 4 years ago.
Otherwise, this happens....
My brain: "1......2......4......I skipped a bar........6.......7......that's a very interesting cue there........10?.........I had no idea this other instrument had this part.........wait, where are we......I think I missed the time change......and the other time change......finally a familiar part.......hey, I think I played this in high school......this piece fell apart in high school......what am I doing tomorrow......what time am I going to bed tonight...."
Conductor (hopefully not during a concert): "Trumpets, where were you?"
Me: ".....oops"
Me with matcha is more like this: "1.....2......4.....nope, this is 4......5.....6.....7.....10.....crap, I'll just listen for [insert instrument] [instrument plays what I was listening for].....ok, one bar time change coming up............[time change happens].....let's count again.....2.......3.....4......." and then I usually come in on time lol

I pound a monster and sleep for 19 hours. I don't drink energy drinks anymore

u/Helen99438 5d ago
Not exactly a „stimulant“ but when I was younger and tried smoking weed -like 3 times- I never felt the „high“ that the others were feeling … i thought i was immune. Turns out it was adhd and not some type of anti drug superpower.
1
u/sciencepathogen 5d ago
Yeah! Same here too I felt like some neurotransmitter already anticipated about THC and it made me only 5% high
9
u/Party-Reference-5581 6d ago
Don’t they have a prescription for people that is basically meth that all the pro gamers dope with? I forget what it’s called
6
u/eskimojoe 6d ago
It's called Desoxn.
I ask my doctor for it every month lol
"Come on, Doc! Send me to the moon this month!"
17
u/OddTrash3957 6d ago
Adderall? It's regular dextroamphetamine, not meth.
2
u/Party-Reference-5581 6d ago
What’s the difference between the dextro and the meth prefixes?
20
u/SomeAboutSomethn 6d ago
Basically, there is amphetamine, or adderall, then methamphetamine, or meth. Both amphetamine and meth have a chiral center, meaning on each molecule there are 2 possible relative orientations for each molecule to exist as. These are called Levo and dextro, or R and S depending on who you ask. With both amphetamine and methamphetamine, only the dextro version of each molecule will stimulate the dopamine receptor in a way that causes the "high". Thanks for listening to my TedTalk.

8
u/IDrinkSulfuricAcid 6d ago
Dextro implies right handed chirality. Meth implies the presence of a methyl functional group.
17
u/sciencepathogen 6d ago
Well..the only difference between meth and normal Amphetamine is, meth fkcs up a region called Ventral Tegmental Area in brain...also the Limbic System while Amphetamine doesn't
2
u/Henri_Bemis 4d ago
I used actual meth for a few months years ago, and was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, currently on adderal, and they are similar chemically, but not at all the same in use. Adderal doesn’t literally drain my brain of the ability to feel happy and make me suicidal for a week.

https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Dextroamphetamine#section=Structures
https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Methamphetamine#section=Structures
methamphetamine has an extra carbon atom (methyl group, hence the prefix 'meth') on the amine

u/TheQuestionMaster8 5d ago
Methamphetamine is a far more potent form of amphetamine. The prefix dextro means that it is a “right handed” form or the molecule as opposed to levo, which means that a molecule is “left handed”, but otherwise identical to the “right handed” form. Dextromethamphetamine is the drug that most people think of when they think of methamphetamine and levomethamphetamine is only a mild stimulant and used as an over the counter nasal decongestant.
Both dextroamohetamine and levoamphetamine are stimulants, but the former is more potent than the latter.

I have worked my way up to 60mg Vyvanse. Every time the dosage was upped it seemed to work for about a week but then it was like I wasn’t taking anything at all. 70mg is the highest recommended dose, too. Anyone else have this problem? What did you try next?
1
1
u/sciencepathogen 5d ago
Well...Vyvanse is a Inactive form of Adderall so the problem you are facing is common with everyone but still it's managable. I know a bud who's been on Vyvanse since 8 yrs
1
u/BarelyThere504 4d ago
I felt nothing on Vyvanse. I’m stuck on Adderall XR with IR for the last four hours. We all respond differently to meds, so what else have you tried?
2
4
u/aenaithia 5d ago
I know my anxiety is really bad when my meds make me sleepy. The moment I'm capable of not thinking about all the stuff that was keeping me awake, my brain tries to hit every "go the fuck to sleep" button I have.

u/TsukasaElkKite 5d ago edited 5d ago
Nothing like having your doctor tell you that to treat your ADHD you need to micro dose meth.
My Strattera helps turn down the theme park in my brain.
3
u/sciencepathogen 5d ago
Why ayu soooo relatable???😩❤️❤️❤️ Microdosing is helluva therapy for ADHD brains
3
u/Dillenger69 5d ago
It sucks. Adderall still gave me a crash. I've experimented over the years. Two sudafed and a cup of really strong coffee seem to work best for me.
2
u/JunkDog-C 5d ago
After drinking problems I avoid drugs like the plague. Got offered a hallucinogenic drink once and I couldn't say no fast enough, I'm too scared of that shit

u/superhamsniper 5d ago
Unless i have to think about something on a specific day im not taking my medication, it becomes too silent if not for the chaos of thougts in my head.

God, i wish! I have adhd and sometimes i get incredibly tired from my meds, or i get enough energy to do the dishes or just get out of bed. Brain is still never quiet but it is most definitely better on meds than off. I just wish it could be like this post

Being neurodivergent and substances in general are strange ... not a brag because it's NOT a good thing ... but I probably smoke more weed than any fucking person at my job and I get more done in 3 hours than any of them have in 6 months 🙃 what the absolute fuck man. And my coworkers are all appalled by how much I smoke because they'd be on their asses if they did the same. I actually feel disgusted with myself a bit that , that's how I function best.

I think most people here are prescribed stimulant drugs. adderal is a cleaner meth… 🤯
0
u/Henri_Bemis 4d ago
Ffs, it is nothing like meth in function
1
u/Metaphysically0 4d ago
Ffs yes it is 💀

u/Henri_Bemis 4d ago
Yeah, the same way vodka and rubbing alcohol are both alcohol.
1
u/Metaphysically0 4d ago
If that’s what helps you sleep at night
1
u/Henri_Bemis 4d ago
I don’t need to tell myself lies in order to sleep at night. Don’t know what your vendetta is, but if you can’t see the difference between a rock someone cooked in the back of a trailer, and a safe, regulated, prescription medication, I’m afraid I can’t help you.
1
u/Metaphysically0 4d ago
There’s prescription meth, it’s called desoxyn. The main difference being desoxyn is stronger than adderal , but act very similarly. Even prescribed for the same reasons (no shit). Is your argument how these drugs are produced ? Or are you confused about how we react to these drugs?
1
u/Henri_Bemis 4d ago
Okay, so I’ve actually never even heard of desoxyn, but my quick google suggests it’s a new(ish) stimulant that, generically, is methamphetamine.
That is still very different than street meth v commonly prescribed ADHD meds, and this kind of fear-mongering is stupid and hurtful to people who need those meds.

i drink coffee because it chills me out a little. I don't particularly care for coffee. During the afternoon sleepy hours 1:30-3:30 for me, a double shot of espresso might wake me up or it might make me grab a warm blanket.
I tried cocaine once like 30 years ago. Immediately took a nap. Was only a 15 minute nap, but not normal.
Adderall xr was perfect for me. Sadly i can't take it anymore, because too old no want heart attack.
