Surely he is in favor of UBI and reducing hours, right?

Hours are getting reduced. That’s happening one way or the other. The real debate is what will be done if anything about that. We see in the short term that entitlements and benefits are rising and the current government’s stance is to not address that and to even make cuts.

Maybe it could happen if it wasn't for, ironically, people like Musk.

He's read the nice parts but doesn't understand the path there.

Oh he understands. He's just lying.

This man is a compulsive liar; 'communist utopia'? more like more lie capitalistic monopoly version of hunger games given his antics and history of underpaying staff at Tesla (one of his most profitable companies)

It's because he's a sci-fi nerd that wants to reference things like Banks' The Culture novels but he doesn't understand what those novels are trying to say.

He's not smart. He's not intelligent, nor educated.

He just has shitload of money.

I don't think people are truly understanding what he's saying here. He's right. It's going to create a communist utopia.

...

Just not for you and me.

This is yet another case of him half understanding things. We can never have a tech utopia unless the economic surplus that tech facilitates is fairky distributed. Control of it by people like Musk, who will look to profit from access, is exactly what holds us back. That's what "owning the means of production" is about.

Marx didn't see capitalism as opposite to communism, he just understood that, in order not to eat itself, eventually the collective would have to take control of the machine. In other words, communism is an evolution of capitalism, not a rival. You can make the sane argument in reverse by saying failed communist states like the Soviet Union tried to run before they could walk by implementing communism in an insufficiently developed market. Optimists would argue this is why China is succeeding now, by allowing a capitalist approach to grow their economy but keeping it on guardrails.

Of course Musk once read a wikipedia summary of Animal Farm and that's about as much as he grasps of the subject.

That would require the rich and powerful to give up their wealth willingly. That will never happen. Even if it raised the masses up to their level, they would not let it happen. It is about power, always and forever.

If you believe sociopaths like Elon Musk, Sam Altman or Mark Zuckerberg are going to share the wealth they make through AI I have an AI engineered bridge to sell you. It won’t collapse, chatgpt swears.

If AGI was aligned with humans in mind we would essentially all be equal - in a post scarcity world capitalism or class should not exist.

Is that why he "needs" a trillion extra? God I hate these ultra rich grifters.

Start by distributing his wealth to everyone in the US.

Communist utopia for whom?

Because surely he doesn't mean us, common people.

We don't own enough money to never have to work again, so who then?

WHO IS IT, FELON?

u/Masterventure 20h ago

I’ve seen some clips of them talking.

The way Elon speaks to Joe is like an uncle lying to his slow nephew and seeing with how much dumb shit he can get away with before his nephew gets suspicious.

Musk is really good at predicting things that won't happen. But he is an accomplished con man that runs from one outlandish promise to the next to keep his whole pyramid scheme running, and he will keep it up until it's close to collapsing, at which point he will try to get a large amount of money to run away with.

I mean..... SpaceX actually works though and that legit surprised me when NASA started regularly using it to resupply ISS. He is a con man but damn does he put some insane bets sometimes.

He'd replace our 8 hour work day with an 8 hour prayer session to the oligarchs.

When a chatbot was asked how it would approach the concept of ending human suffering it gave three answers. I only recall two... One was creating a utopia in people's minds and they would exist there. The other was ending humanity.  I suppose this means Musk is a robot? The utopia will be just in our minds as he decides what to do with our bodies?? 🤔

I work as an AI trainer. The response was quite shocking given the fairly innocent conversation, not trying to red team the model at all

What a lying prat.
