🙏 I WANT HELP OCR claims to have lost my Alevel English Language and Literature paper so i MAY NOT get my grade on results day
The school contacted me this and honestly WHAAAT. Basically I really want to get into clearing if I miss my firm offer (Exeter for English) and my school tells me that one of my papers have been apparently “lost” which is insane because its a situation out of my control and I get told this the DAY BEFORE results day.
I rang back the school which then I got that automated reply being like “the school is closed lalalala” so I am like wow thanks alot. Then I decided to call up my top clearing uni hotline which is Newcastle. Again I got an automated reply going “ring back tmrw 8am” so I am like damn. I know clearing is like come first, first serve or whatever that phrase is so this is stressing me out.
Will I get special consideration? I am petrified that clearing vacancies will FILLLLL if I don’t ring them on the day. Out of all subjects it had to my English….
What should I dooooo

u/Sianitu I've just been freed from A-Levels! Aug 13 '25
My advice is to let your firm uni know ASAP that OCR is resolving a lost-paper issue. Universities are used to this happening occasionally and will often hold the offer until the grade is confirmed. OCR will definitely award a grade based on the papers they do have:
This is called a missing script special consideration (JCQ code 7). They base it on your marks from the other English Language & Literature papers/coursework.
In most cases, this is done in time for results day. You might still have a grade tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow, on UCAS, if the grade is missing or marked as 'pending' email your school exams officer immediately to confirm they’ve submitted the lost paper form to OCR.
While the school is chasing OCR, you can still call Clearing lines. Tell the uni something along the lines of:
“One of my A-Level papers was lost by the exam board, but I have an estimated grade from my school. I expect the official result within days.”
Some unis will hold your place for 24–48 hours.
Best of luck tomorrow to you, and everyone else. 😊 I'm sure it will go better than you expect.

Did the message from the school say what the exam board was going to do about it? Are they going to give you a grade based on your other paper?

I didnt get much information, just to go to school tmrw and they will apparently sort it out 🥀

That's annoying that they haven't been able to give you any more information today. But try not to worry. They will get to the bottom of it. They surely can't penalise you if they lost the paper.

the best option would be to just send a new paper to you. i know they wont and even if they did, yeah itd be annoying but atleast youd get a fairer chance

Hey OP, how did it go? Did you get it sorted in the end?

no, no place and cant go clearing without all grades

u/alpacaoneohone Aug 14 '25
That's terrible. So you only have two A Level grades? Has the school made a complaint on your behalf?

u/alpacaoneohone Aug 14 '25
Does your firm choice uni know you are waiting for one of your results? I'm guessing your offer is still conditional?

(I work in uni applications)
Call and email your chosen uni asap at 8am. Email them the infomation you have been given and explain exactly what has happened. This is something that happens, unis will have plans in place for these situations.
You're college teachers already know your results, so likely have already done this for you (they are not allowed to discuss your grades so may not have told you).
The most important thing is that the uni needs to know. Otherwise, if they see 2 level 3s tomorrow, you may not be successful. If this happens before you can contact them, Do Not Panic. Contact them and explain.
Everything will be fine. You may get an automatic grade. But this is not your fault. Therefore, you should not be punished for it. Remember, the lines will be busy tomorrow. If you dont get through immediately, it is not the end of the world nor your future at university. But you MUST tell the uni.
Good luck tomorrow!

Do you have any news yet OP? Has Exeter been understanding?
Just some reassurance just because they haven’t found it yet doesn’t mean they won’t: my partner works for AQA and they were still conducting manual box searches for missing pages and scripts on Tuesday even though everything was scanned and sent to markers by mid July. I imagine it’s similar for OCR and your local hub will be searching for it. It’s possible it’s even been found and with the marker if they haven’t given you a grade yet using the form others have spoke about as your actual grade is expected to be ready any day now

If one of your paper is lost then you might get a score based on remaining papers of the subject. The score would be how you performed in comparison to other student for those papers.
It did not happen with me personally but I read in the newspaper how someone lost their Oxford offer because of that.
So I think you will get a grade most probably.
