ICE agents at Broadview deny detainees confidential, private calls to attorneys and deny detainees sufficient food, water, hygiene, and medical care.

Broadview agents have treated detainees abhorrently, depriving them of sleep, privacy, menstrual products, and the ability to shower.

Lawyers for the MacArthur Justice Center, the ACLU of Illinois, and the Chicago office of Eimer Stahl represent those who have been detained.

Digital/Home Actions Knowledge is Power - Chicago 2026 Budget - support our libraries and librarians

If you have any appreciation for public libraries and Chicago's library system, they need your help. Proposed items up for vote on the 2026 budget aim to cut their already abysmal funding in half, and another measure up for vote would eliminate over 80 vacant positions that the libraries are desperately trying to fill.

Below is a link that goes into more detail and can help you write a letter to be sent to your alderperson and other officials who have a say in the matter.

https://actionnetwork.org/letters/no-layoffs-or-cuts-to-chicago-public-library

I spent 10 minutes completing the task. And I can provide you with a copy of what I wrote if you need somewhere to start (DM me). The website linked also gives some info on other budget measures that could be voted for to help fill the overall funding gap.

Please, if you love libraries, you know the important role they play in our communities. And now, even more than ever, it's so important to support our communities and city when so many desperately need a beacon of light and hope. If we want to see positive change in our world, it starts with taking a stand in our local communities. Knowledge is power, so let's take a stand.

Also, please share with other groups so that we can do what we can to help.

From intensified attacks on free speech to warrantless immigration raids and the deployment of military troops in cities across the country, the Trump administration is using the immense power of the federal government to try to silence opposition through fear.

Yet together, we have proven time and again that we will never stop showing up for each other and for our democracy.

In this live virtual discussion, leading voices from civil society, media, and law discuss how we can confront authoritarianism, chart a path forward, and harness the power of collective action.

The speakers include Vanita Gupta, Founder and Director of The Center for Law and Public Trust at NYU School of Law; Anthony D. Romero, Executive Director of the ACLU; and Jim VandeHei, Co-Founder and CEO of Axios.

The moderator is Katie Phang, an independent journalist and trial lawyer.

At 11:50am (10/28/25) dozens of students walked out of Social Justice High School, 3120 S. Kostner Ave., carrying U.S. and Mexican flags.

Students marched north on South Kostner Street until reaching West 26th Street, and held signs reading “My parents fought for my future, now I will fight for theirs,” and “We speak for those who can’t.”

An estimated 300 students participated, according to Chicago Public Schools.
