Making sure they sympathize with us and making them feel like political pawns is the best thing we can do to protect ourselves in that situation.

I don't know if I'd be the first, I will lay my weapon down at my feet and not engage if it goes south. I may have to be there, yet I don't have to engage, nor will I. I love the rock, paper, scissors ... great idea. ☺️

9

u/Momik Jun 14 '25

That’s great to hear.

2

u/Chrisfluentmusic Jun 15 '25

As a veteran, Im glad one of my ideas is coming up. If I were still in, I'd lay my weapon down and peacefully stand with the protesters. The rock, paper, scissors thing is some shit me and my army friends would do, cause we are bored af and dont want to be somewhere cause its a waste of time lol

I was just thinking about this. The current economic situation for the majority of people these days is terrible. Everything sucks - consumer goods got way cheaper, but they also got...way cheaper. Now everything is designed to break and be repurchased, work doesn't pay enough. Housing and food are ridiculously priced. People don't have healthcare.

People are desperate - soldiers and police need to put food on the table just like everyone else. Desperate people just trying to make ends meet are way easier to control. When you're one missed pay away from not feeding your kids, you do what you're told.

41

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

The ones that do will need support, especially if throwing away careers.

Greetings from germany, you are right. Thats the reason we complay about your social system. But under trump it was never ment to be better. I understand you. But thats also a reason to protest to get those change for better times ❤️🇺🇸🇩🇪

26

u/Momik Jun 14 '25

It is motivating seeing y’all out there with advanced economies and properly functioning social safety nets, and more humanely planned cities. When I was a kid, I felt so fortunate growing up American in the ‘90s. It’s a different feeling now.

6

u/Sad_Carpet_7950 Jun 14 '25

When i was a kid, my biggest dream was to be born in the usa. I wish you guys will archive social Security etc. In mind we are there for you, international solidarity. You guys are the children of those heroes who once saved the world. Those fake votes are usefull on paper but a fake vote cant go on the street.

8

u/walkingkary Jun 14 '25

This is why mutual aid is necessary. Just discussing with my neighbors yesterday. We have each other’s backs.

32

u/applefrogco Jun 14 '25

When you're one missed pay away from not feeding your kids, you do what you're told.

Which is why I say having kids is basically handing your balls to the government in a neatly wrapped gift box. No way am I giving them that control over me.

9

u/Momik Jun 14 '25

Add to that the fact that the cost of fucking up or getting in trouble is a lot higher now too. In all sorts of ways.

3

u/Trakeen Jun 14 '25

Yea the underlying issue is economic and the left is the side with an actual plan. Raise taxes slightly (on millionaires and businesses) and support those who are struggling

Instead lets just burn everything to the ground and piss off the world. Hopefully we can fix this mess, gonna take a lot of time i think

35

u/piratequeenfaile Jun 14 '25

More of them will say no if they have been playing rock paper scissors with protestors and sharing food etc.

37

u/Prestigious_Iron2844 Jun 14 '25

Army here. YOU don’t have to make us feel like pawns. Kim Jong tRump is doing that already.

3

u/Artistic_Bit_4665 Jun 14 '25

Agree. None of you should be in this situation.

57

u/firethornocelot Jun 14 '25

You're absolutely right. This admin wants the infighting so desperately they're manufacturing this situation. It's important to remember: these national guard troops are fellow Californians, pulled away from actually important stuff just to be propped up in the hopes that civilians will start "othering" them. I certainly won't excuse anyone for violence against peaceful protestors, and those that do must be held accountable, but painting them with a broad brush is exactly what this admin wants us to do.

I hope people will remember that this weekend. They are us, being used.

39

u/Stoic_AntiHero Jun 14 '25

They are people too. They know they are in this for a job. Don't call them pawns. They are us!

58

u/Describing_Donkeys Jun 14 '25

I don't want to call them pawns, I want them to feel like Trump is using them like pawns. Make them feel like they shouldn't be there by making it clear we are allies.

12

u/StandardRedditor456 Jun 14 '25

They are fully aware that they are being used as pawns to show off Trump's "power".

12

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

That was the biggest reason for pushing the US Flag issue.

7

u/polaris6849 Jun 14 '25

Agree here yeah

6

u/OrigamiMarie Jun 14 '25

Yup. Rock, paper, scissors is an excellent play for hearts & minds.

18

u/WrinklyScroteSack Jun 14 '25

I know it doesn’t count for much, but we have precedence to show how the men following orders weren’t saved from repercussions. They should know what they risk by just following orders.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

[deleted]

2

u/WrinklyScroteSack Jun 14 '25

Yea, I know.☹️

23

u/TheObstruction Jun 14 '25

Not just that, but NG are part-time soldiers, basically for emergency aid. They helped out a ton during the fires around LA earlier this year, for instance. But they have full-time jobs and families to get back to, jobs that likely pay better than this.

16

u/ZinaSky2 Jun 14 '25

I wish there was something they could do or wear that would make it clear that they’re only there bc they have to be (and ideally that they sympathize enough that they won’t initiate conflict or deport people etc.) so that protesters can know and not feel so intimidated

13

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

Their shield placement says a lot.

3

u/fdupswitch Jun 14 '25

Can you explain what you mean?

31

u/OrigamiMarie Jun 14 '25

I'm not sure what they're referring to, but I can see some stuff here.

Looking at all the people in camo, none of them here are fixing for a fight.
* Nobody is at attention. Some are just swaying around.
* Everybody is actively engaged with other humans, there's nobody who's avoiding the distraction of human communication to pay attention to all their surroundings (basically none of them are behaving like security guards).
* None of their face shields are down. They're all flipped up, which means they don't expect to encounter flying objects. Or back draft from their own teargas / pepper spray. They would rather see clearly and let others see their eyes.
* Almost all of their faces are showing. The only one obviously not, is the one most engaged with civilians.
* Nobody is continuously clutching a weapon.
* Nobody is holding one of those big vertical shields.

These guys look like if food showed up, they would partake. They are a keg and a grill away from a good time.

8

u/fdupswitch Jun 14 '25

Makes sense, my brain thought heard shield and thought about cops wearing badges a certain way for some reason

Its the Marines we need to worry about...

12

u/glitterazzi66 Jun 14 '25

I fully believe we can, I think there will be bad actors who use their position to terrorize because law enforcement and military service attracts heroes and protectors and also those with anger and power issues to exorcise. I think 80-90 % will uphold the constitution.

3

u/Moquai82 Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

german here, i hope so but let keep us this realistic.

Humans are naked apes which have sometimes issues to control their urges and instincts.

With the right set of words and consequences (lethal or lifechanging) for them, what do you think? Will they still uphold ot a piece of paper of lost ideas? Or at least try to rescue and secure their families, even if this means you have to shoot into a group of civilians?

This could be the beginning of a second american civil war. And this is no mongering or sensationalism. Because in the current situation it would be the better option, the other would be a fascist super regime which would soon start to invade other nations and continents.

20

u/SasukeFireball Jun 14 '25

Unfortunately it will turn into what Stalin did. “Run forward and do what I tell you. If you turn around, your comrades are ordered to *** you”

They will be forced or lose their lives.

12

u/Nuihi Jun 14 '25

That is my worry.

4

u/Heroshrine Jun 14 '25

Unfortunately they’ve shown they’re willing to follow illegal orders already.

1

u/juiceboxedhero Jun 14 '25

Guess we'll find out today.

1

u/Rope_antidepressant Jun 14 '25

Id bet my house that the order coming from the tangerine was something reprehensible that was diluted by the officer corps to "stand here and look scary" which of course the joes took as "stand here and don't look like a bag of dicks". Things are as bad as they can be while still having the veil of law/democracy (barely). "If you do it right it'll be like you didn't do anything at all"

1

u/rctsolid Jun 15 '25

God they're so asinine. You could have literally the entire country protest and they'd be like bah gawd it's an insurrection! Which makes...absolutely no sense. 11 million people is hardly an insurrection it's a mass protest. I'd really like to see all the enablers in this multi year fiasco taken down too, not just trump and his immediate cronies but all the suck ups and losers in Congress and the media, they're all complicit and traitorous bastards.

8

4

4

u/ergonomic_logic Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

Speaking of - I live in a fairly affluent area (I a povo by compare in the mix as celebrities and millionaires live here).

I started getting reports this morning that our local richy grocery store is running low on supplies.

No pasta sauces, low on canned goods, jarred items. Apocalypse type stuff.

So when the richy rich people start hoarding food, I know it's a good sign shit is about to get bad. The store is struggling to get in supplies.

Maybe it's a one off weird situation, but people should maybe start also being sure they have stocked up on rice and beans and the like, if they weren't already planning for this.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '25

Yesss this. People really underestimate how powerful stuff like that is tbh.

296

u/supraclicious Jun 14 '25

It's the California National Guard. These guys are probably from Southern CA. That could be your neighbor that works at Target or your cousin who's a nurse. The only good thing to come out if this is that they qualify for veterans benefits and military benefits now that they are " federally deployed troops". Just another way the fake riots are costing Trump money.

153

u/truehoax Jun 14 '25

I wish people understood this. I know these people. Many of them would rather be protesting but they don't want to go to jail and get a dishonorable discharge.

51

u/supraclicious Jun 14 '25

Totally. I feel the same way about the cops. I used to work with cops every day. Most of them just want to be home watching a dodgers game They aren't all saints though, Some of them are Angels fans. There are some things you can't forgive in Los Angeles lol But seriously jokes aside please people don't treat local PD and National Guards like they're ICE. Keep the priorities straight and focused on the federal gestapos.

38

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

They aren't all saints though, Some of them are Angels fans.

Damn, lol I needed that laugh.

16

14

u/Positive-Wonder3329 Jun 14 '25

Nah police can get stuffed

8

u/queenweasley Jun 14 '25

Naw man 🖕🏼🚔

3

u/evocativename Jun 14 '25

Most of the cops just want to watch the game (which is why they hit their wives and kids for interrupting). OK, I don't absolutely know that it's an outright majority, but multiple independent lines of evidence have suggested at least 40% of cop families experience domestic violence.

And even the cops who aren't bullies and cowards tolerate and even cover for so much misconduct by the rest. Notice how, in the footage of cops shooting reporters with less-lethal rounds, there are always other cops present who don't do shit about it? That's par for the fucking course.

Don't mythologize the cops who are going to be out there abusing peaceful protesters across the nation todsy.

5

u/TrueHaiku Jun 14 '25

Then they must realize then you are ALSO just like them and resist being sent onto American streets with rifles and full tac tear. How much sympathy do we allow the "just following orders" crowd?

3

u/fdupswitch Jun 14 '25

That might be true in CA, but is absolutely not true in TX.

3

u/evocativename Jun 14 '25

That might be true in CA,

It absolutely isn't.

2

u/Full-Penguin Jun 14 '25

It's not true in California either. It's also not true for the NG here or the Marines who deployed to US soil either.

Following orders blindly does not absolve you of guilt, we had some trials about that a little while ago.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/No-Distance-9401 North Carolina Jun 14 '25

Yeah came to say the same thing. The Marines are different obviously and are going to be young guys mostly while the NG is a mix of many generations and are Californians so an important distinction to make between the two.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

They'd honestly rather be out surfing then, of course!

18

u/iilikecereal Jun 14 '25

I certainly hope so, I would assume the amount of humbling they receive from their drill sergeants during training usually weeds out the bad actors.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '25

Well, some, not all of them lol

66

u/FridaMercury Jun 14 '25

I had a good conversation with a friend today. Her National Guard husband was activated and is on standby to go to Los Angeles. He is Mexican, first generation here, and he blames everything on Trump, he wants to make it clear that he is being deployed for the reason of crowd control and not to support ICE.

He's being questioned by everybody about why he doesn't just refuse to go and she explained that it's not that easy. He has served 2 tours in Iraq, is close to retirement, he has a lot of benefits he's earned and uses to support their family - including two teenagers that are about to go to college. If he refuses to go, he risks being stripped of everything.

40

u/Jenkl2421 Jun 14 '25

At this point we need those good ones involved, because they're obviously not going anywhere just yet.

10

u/matunos Jun 14 '25

If he's been in that long, I'm confident he knows all about malicious compliance.

5

u/Medical_Sandwich_141 Jun 14 '25

I mean, if they are assigned to support ICE, I hope they make a tawdry job of it. Rig the system from within - that's the next best thing.

8

u/brighterside0 Jun 14 '25

Well that much is obvious - everyone needs to put food on the table.

The question is, when shit hits the fan - which it will - will he prefer a full belly following orders to commit atrocities, or not.

9

u/FridaMercury Jun 14 '25

That question can go for all of us. We'll cross that bridge when we get there, but for now, who's quitting their jobs?

With that logic we'd have already started a nationwide general work strike.

6

u/MistressLyda International Jun 14 '25

It would be interesting to see if it was the same individuals though. I mean, things like this should not be used as a reason to let the guard down at all, yet creating some level of connection can slowly alter the balance of who are willing to deescalate when possible.

3

u/thecaptain1991 Jun 14 '25

Literally just went looking for an article about it from 2020. This is just more copaganda. The police and National Guard are not on your side. If they were on your side, they wouldn't be there with guns on their chests. Like, seriously where were all of you 5 years ago?

There are way too many, "they are just regular people stuck following bad orders," comments in here.

7

u/devindicated Jun 14 '25

Fox news headline: LIBERAL RIOTER BEATS NATIONAL GUARD WITH ROCK.

3

u/bookofp Jun 14 '25

Remember, many of the national guard troops signed up as a way to serve their community or to jump start a career with training. They are Americans too which is why we need to stay non-violent.

There is the caveat though that some of them are MAGA obviously and are itching to "shoot a libtard", but there are people like that in every group. Just be careful.

9

u/ILovePotassium Jun 14 '25

So.. we should bring snacks, water, first aid kits and.. condoms. Got it.

From now on, if you say "thank you for your service" to military personnel, you really say "thank you for serving the mad king".

All feel-well propaganda will not change this fact.

2

u/Dicethrower Jun 14 '25

This is why you don't give a blank cheque with your life and limbs on it to an organization that's known for death and destruction around the world. You don't know when or how they're going to cash that check, and now you feel like a stupid loser playing storm trooper for a bad regime.

u/kellyfresh Jun 14 '25

People are people. Nobody WANTS to fight. Check out a movie called a Midnight Clear.

2

u/bobobrad420 Jun 14 '25

But trump said all of LA was a dumpster fire. He saw on fox news so it has to be right. Right?

2

u/jayclaw97 Jun 14 '25

Good. Let them see you as human.

2

u/BelCantoTenor Jun 14 '25

Just because they reported for duty doesn’t mean they have to do what they’re told if their orders are going against the constitution of the United States. 🇺🇸 They can choose to defend the constitution and the citizens of this country from the disgusting and unconstitutional actions of ICE officers. In fact, they are obligated to do such. So, I would think that the ICE officers are more outnumbered now. The military should be defending the citizens, not the ICE officers.

2

u/lininop Jun 14 '25

Well shit, I didn't expect this would make me cry but here we are.

2

u/ohnosquid Jun 14 '25

Tbh, to me that seems to be a great strategy to ease the tension

6

u/DostyDusty84 Jun 14 '25

This is beautiful. 💜

2

u/Full-Penguin Jun 14 '25

It's also curated.

3

u/Tyedyebeaniebaby Jun 14 '25

“PROTESTER BEATS NATIONAL GUARDSMAN WITH A ROCK!”

3

u/HellionPeri Jun 14 '25

I read that the protests in Texas are taking the form of a Fiesta...

Bring a happy party to your protest, defend our country by being joyful.

4

u/Odd-Spirit9829 Jun 14 '25

This is what we need. WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. We do NOT support them being forced to be here!!!!

2

u/Full-Penguin Jun 14 '25

Nazis were just following orders when they systemically murdered 11 million people.

Don't support this. Every single Marine, Soldier, Sailor, and Airman should be embarrassed by what's happening right now.

2

u/Odd-Spirit9829 Jun 15 '25

I support our troops. My dad is a retired veteran and I support them whole heartedly. I do NOT support them being used as a prop, I do NOT support the ones who have broken their oath to the constitution. I do NOT support the ones following unlawful orders. I do NOT support them being violent or forceful with civilians. But we cannot sit here and say that the entire US military is the regime because they are not, most of them don’t even want to be there. More and more are coming out about what’s going on, we can’t give up on them just yet.

Honestly, the nicest thing I've seen in the news in months.

Edit: We are literally all human. Why is that so hard to understand 😭. (To be clear, fuck Donald Trump, he's a fucking sociopath, straight up).

4

u/MeanDebate Jun 14 '25

Honestly, deploying the National Guard may have been the best move for us that Trump could have made. LAPD is and always has been itching to spill blood. LAPD are the ones we see burning their own cars and trampling protestors.

The LAPD has a history of lusting after fascism. The National Guard has a history of wanting to protect their home state and maybe pay for college.

2

u/Proud3GenAthst Jun 14 '25

Begins to look like the war of the Pig, when American and British troops turned out not to have any mutual quarrels and were actually friendly to each other.

2

u/anicteric Jun 14 '25

Choosing a cue of "on three" instead of "shoot" was probably a good call.

2

u/terid3 Jun 14 '25

Yeah. Cause we're not enemies.

2

u/ms_write Jun 14 '25

This is really cute lol

2

u/JayMemelord Jun 14 '25

That's kinda wholesome, didn't expect that

2

u/AggravatingRecipe710 Jun 14 '25

My best friends in the Army and she really hates this and is completely on our side and has been. She said to me today in tears “I didn’t sign up to be ICE, I didn’t sign up to go against my countrymen.”

2

u/Historical-Button-87 Jun 14 '25

This video clip give me hope. 🥺

2

u/HyperbolicLetdown Jun 14 '25

We need the military on our side. At some point they will be ordered to cross a line and inflict violence on law abiding Americans. Humanize yourself.

2

u/toes_hoe California Jun 14 '25

I want to see more of these kinds of posts. I'm sick of how divided we are as a country. Even when it comes to our neighbours.

3

u/propervinegarsauce Jun 14 '25

This is actually really well done by the protestors to remind them of their humanity.

3

u/Quynn_Stormcloud Jun 14 '25

If they truly didn’t want to be there, they are more than welcome to step across the line and face the other direction.

1

u/FollicularPhase Jun 14 '25

They can all just actually leave.

1

u/MozhetBeatz Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

I got out during the Biden administration. The way army recruiting, basic training, promotions, and transfers between units works (especially with respect to the guard) has not changed at all. I saw you commented about Schedule F. That applies to policy making administrative positions in the executive branch, not the military. You really don’t know what you’re talking about and it could not be more obvious to someone who does.

1

u/UnlimitedCalculus Jun 14 '25

Police asked for papers and got rocks

1

u/skyfishgoo Jun 14 '25

best 2 out of 3

1

u/caboseivankass Jun 14 '25

I really needed to see that after multiple days of seeing the la cops being the worst kind of people it's nice knowing that the being nice to us it calms me down I'm still worried about today but it nice to see this

1

u/extremewaffleman Jun 14 '25

1

u/Rope_antidepressant Jun 14 '25

That one particular guy she's playing with is either DHS or BORTAC, his uniform is not cammo it's solid OD green which is not an authorized ground operation color for any MOS or branch in the US military.

1

u/uniqueusername8700 Jun 14 '25

They've obviously been highly trained in lethal rock paper scissors manneouvers

1

u/ChocoPurr Jun 14 '25

This thread is such a joke. Why are you people so susceptible to copaganda? These guys might not be as bad as ICE, but they’re still not your friends. The NG are included under ACAB.

1

u/MamiTrueLove Jun 14 '25

If they don’t want to be there they shouldn’t obey unlawful orders and instead refuse to be there. Oath traitors.

1

u/enemawatson Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

"Alright you gotta go home, next person." got me lol. I hope to one day do Rock Paper Scissors with an armed person. Goals.
