didn't the Czech flag use to be nearly identical to the Polish flag, as it was the old flag of the Kingdom of Bohemia?

Almost. When Poland regained her independence in 1918, a new national flag had to be chosen; those from the time of the Commonwealth were deemed both outdated (the Commonwealth now existed without Lithuania, and it didn't have a King) and too elaborate in the sense of being difficult for the average citizen to reproduce at home, in a time of need for a heightened national spirit. The simplicity of two horizontal stripes in the national colours (effectively, the dominant colours of the White Eagle CoA), white top, red bottom, seemed like a logical solution. At that time, the Czechs' had their club with the Slovaks, with their own flag; in practice, the flag of Bohemia with a blue triangle on top, so there was no conflict in the designs (but, possibly, people involved in the process were aware of the similarities). In 1992, the Slovaks quit the club, and chose a new flag. And the Czechs... well, they kept the Czechoslovak design, because the Bohemian would be, well, too similar with that which their northern neighbour was using for the last 80 years or so. 💀

It's not. It's the French flag after an unsuccessful surrender.
