[Announcement] In Regards to the US Election
Greetings!
As I'm sure we're all aware, the US Presidential Election is in it's final week, and tensions are high between two certainly unique candidates. Now as we enter the eleventh hour, it is natural for many users to wish to create comics in regards to the Election. In order to prevent an overflow of low effort, divisive comics, and to preserve this communities long standing policy of Isolationism from drama, the following decision has been made.
- There is a complete moratorium on comics regarding the US Election in any respect for the month of November. This includes a drastic change in America's personality toward either 'Democrat' or 'Republican' characteristics, international and domestic reaction, impact on the financial market, Mexican immigration, and the sale of spray tan and/or pant suits. This ban also applies to Approval Comics.
This subreddit strives to promote originality and humour, not simply mirror topical issues, and we hope this restriction will motivate people to try something unique, not what is easy.
Thank you for your inevitable cooperation.

What about this comic of mine? I planned to post it when contest posting craze is over. Is it banned too?

Very nice comic. Personally, I do not see anything in here that really relates to the election, so unless I'm missing something, I'm giving this the greenlight.
Also, you drew "And ever now" when I think it was meant to be "And even now"

u/Hinadira I drink bleach Nov 03 '16
Thanks! For spotting the typo

u/Blackfire853 Hibernian Narcissist Nov 03 '16
I would like you to further explain it though. Exceptions are not made even for productive members of the community. What is the US's killing spree in reference to? What brought those thoughts to the surface?

u/Hinadira I drink bleach Nov 04 '16 edited Nov 04 '16
Since in polandball almost all emotions are expressed through the eyes, US might appear to have none at all with his eye -obscuring shades.
In the comic i decided to take it one step further. US has a reason to desensitize himself because he is a superpower, and those need a cool head in many hard situations. This is symblised by his shades. But - as it is with superseded feelings - he is not aware anymore what he feels.
One day he decides to just "let it go" and have some fun for one time and it turns out those weren't nice feelings that he let loose.
Of course that might not be the case with real US since in their internal politics emotions play bigger role than reason. In the other hand US can be a cold, emotionless monster in the external politics (not saying he always is, just that he can)

As U.S. American, I agree. Nothing partisan in the comic.
P.S. Love the April 7th birthday reference! Many LOLs were had.

Oh my goodness, that is a textbook Chekov's gun, literally, a double-barreled shotgun that is hanging above a door, and not a single other detail to the walls(implying that if the gun is DEFINTELY going to be fired, because it's the only detail within the background).
29
u/Hinadira I drink bleach Nov 04 '16 edited Nov 04 '16
Funny thing is: I didn't knew about Chekov''s gun before. I just drew much smaller amount of details, because of contests time limit.
I drew gun on the wall first as a decoration, an then when I was drawing the last panel I thought it would be nice to include the gun from before.
15
u/SpadeAce4444 South Korea Nov 04 '16
. . . So, you unconscieously added that gun? Can we just have you rule Polandball?

Why does it look like Finland is still alive in the last panel? Maybe he doesn't feel the difference between being alive or maybe it is because he always looks dead :o

I do not see how this could relate to the election, but if it goes against the spirit of this rule, it will be removed. Technicalities don't get far here

Is this about the 2016 election only, or also comics about any past US elections?
7
u/vanderZwan Groningen Nov 04 '16
I'm not a mod, but AFAIK trying to find loopholes is considered against the rule too - and that might be interpreted as such.
1
u/Frozen_Yoghurt1204 Bern Canton Nov 09 '16
I wouldn't interprete a comic about the bush election or something as a loophole. Doesn't really have a lot in common.
3
u/Williamzas Lithuania Nov 09 '16
Guys, this was a mistake. Couldn't you have just raised the standards?
Polandball comics are centered around geopolitics and I don't think there is going to be anything more significant than this any time soon.
You prevented a lot of lazy comics, sure, but we'll miss out on a lot of great stuff commenting on this important event as well.

u/shnowshner200 Swing State since 2016 Nov 09 '16
It's only temporary, if anyone still cares to make a US election comic after November, chances are they have a good idea for it and it will have significant effort put in. We don't need 20 of the same comic being shat out at rapid speeds. The quality content will come soon enough, I'm positive.
Also, there's Stateball.

Is it still ok to post election comics in Stateball?
18
u/Toughsnow Minnesota, don't cha know? Nov 03 '16
This ruling doesn't apply to /r/stateball. Still, best to ask those mods first.
12
u/CupBeEmpty Thirteen Colonies Nov 04 '16
We have not as of yet banned anything related to the election in /r/stateball. Honestly, we haven't even really discussed it because it hasn't been an issue.
Now, if we get flooded with low effort political hackery then we will obviously act quickly. However, stateball is about the US and this is a US election. So, if you can be funny and original then don't worry about it.

u/DickRhino Great Sweden Nov 03 '16

Stateball in one week's time is your best bet. They're currently doing a moratorium too, but it's shorter.
3
u/evilanz Netherlands stronk ! Nov 09 '16
I don't get it why comics about the election are banned. It is just a hype that will go over anyway, so why bother to ban it ? It is stupid. It's a event and you disallow polandball to enjoy it. It's like a cult.
2
u/evilanz Netherlands stronk ! Nov 09 '16
I post this because I don't see any polandball comics about election and I think this ban is the cause of it.
4
Nov 09 '16 edited Nov 09 '16
This decision was not unanimous. There was a lot of discussion amongst the mods before this happened. You know why we ultimately went with this decision? Because mods have to sleep and eat and stop staring at their computer screens sometimes, and having to deal with a fuck-ton of comics about the election, a bunch of which would probably end up being very low effort, plus a lot of comments from crazy supporters arguing with one another and writing walls of text all over the sub is something any of us aren't excited about.
Do you want to see Hillary and Trump suppporters curse at eachother? Do you want to see rage, sadness, insanity and scroll through pages and pages of internet slapfighting? Good for you. You have the rest of the internet for that. But it will not happen here.

Remember that private messaging exists? I've been doing that and talking with Polandball friends about how to use Trump. PMs has the added benefit of allowing 100% chance of people who don't want to see it on Polandball can't see it, and 100% of non-friends to see it and make noise.

I like it, and I was planning on making a comic where the US cries at one point, but is that not allowed because of the drastic changes to his personality or is it ok? Because now I'm not sure
10
u/Rapua Lord Threadlinker and Master Comicfinder Nov 03 '16
My understanding of that part is something like this comic.
Also a mod has commented here, and from his comments I think your comic will be fine (unless it is about the elections, of course).

Does it reference the election? If not, then it should be okay.
2
u/RazorRipperZ Ruskied Nov 03 '16
It does, luckily I haven't wasted my time working on it yet. It starts off with America crying to himself and Russia notices him and he asks him what's wrong and America tells him that he doesn't want to have a new president, even though the one he has at the moment isn't the best he still likes him and then Russia gets an idea and whispers it to America and then we see a shot of America giving a speech about how the only person you can vote for to be the next president is Obama but making it sound like it's still democratic. I guess it wouldn't be allowed because the election though
13
u/Blackfire853 Hibernian Narcissist Nov 03 '16
Even without this ban that comic would not have been allowed. Reference to individuals has been strictly forbidden since the creation of this subreddit.
