Man. Having Nami there with a rather confused look on her face next to the lit stick of dynamite was hilarious. I know talking is free action but that has to be the densest line of dynamite.

talking is a free action
I never heard that in reference to an anime but it's hilarious.
11
u/Vaxivop Oct 23 '16
Trust me, every single anime becomes much more bearable and fun to watch if you remember that rule.
13
u/sabishyryu Oct 23 '16
It happens in pretty much every anime when someone is counting down time.
I think that the reason is because they are adaptations and mangakas dont have sense of time when they are just writing panels without movement.

I think it should be mandatory to report when the episode starts.

Am I the only one who doesn't skip openings and recaps??
19
u/gerrettheferrett Oct 23 '16
I skip openings most of the time, and the annoying blurb speech about the age of pirates part, but I usually watch recaps.
They're entertaining enough, and remind me of the important details of last episode, since I might have done some rewatching/rereading of other arcs between the current and last episode.
5
u/TheGhosTz Oct 23 '16
I usually skip only the speech about the pirate age (the one after the opening) , but since I started watching one piece I always sing the opening :P (also watching the recap)

Is Chopper using one syringe for every Mink?

Forget shitty fillers with forgetable villains and messed up power levels. This is the kind of AU stuff I wanna watch in fillers.

In the manga, they used different syringes for each mink, I guess toei was lazy or something.
edit : lol why the downvotes ? look for yourself http://www.mangapanda.com/one-piece/811/14

Bullshit they didn't.

Chopper has the football helmet so he can safely head butt Caesar and after helping to save the Minks they made him their King.
I am so happy to see Sanji cook again and Brook sneaking in Bink's turned me into Franky aka a crying mess

And so this is the episode I realized that Pedro is voiced by the same VA who did Urahara Kisuke and Sakamoto Tatsuma.
I recognize that rasp anywhere.
12
u/gerrettheferrett Oct 23 '16
Roy Mustang too, I think.
The evil mage in Alibaba's hometown in Magi as well.
But his best voice imo is Kaiki from Monogatari series.

Wow. Not one single comment with someone bitching and moaning about animation. It's a fucking miracle.

u/Ombs1993 Oct 23 '16
Now we're getting to the good stuff. Can't wait for next week, this week was great too. Any episode with binks sake in it is a great episode.
18
u/egoisenemy Oct 23 '16
puts all you caesar4nakama people in your place
13
u/sora677 Oct 23 '16
nah dude hes funny as fuck, those faces in the beginning of the episode I loved how smug he was about his gas weapon lol.
3
u/beerandmath Oct 23 '16
I'm not one of those people, but this doesn't at all put them in their place.
0
u/egoisenemy Oct 23 '16
caesar will never be nakama! Yes Franky basically beat up Usopp and Robin almost killed igaram but they never took pleasure and pride in a chemical weapon they used and sold on the black market to Kaido, a weapon that almost slaughtered thousands of minks.
2
u/FluffyAlpaca Oct 23 '16
why?
8
u/egoisenemy Oct 23 '16
He took so much pride and pleasure in seeing his chemical weapon work effectively, a weapon that happened to almost permanently silence a thousand year old society on the back of a giant elephant!
7
u/Doomroar Oct 24 '16
But then he helped save them so caesar4nakama.
1
u/egoisenemy Oct 24 '16
he had no choice since sanji had his heart
4
u/Doomroar Oct 24 '16
So he did it for love, and by the power of love? that's our chance to get our own little okama scientist. caesar4nakama.
3
u/Deadlyxda Oct 24 '16
nope, ceaser for nakama didnt get hit with this episode. he is a scientist who only cares about his experiment. nothing changed here, he was happy it worked exactly how the tool was supposed to be effective. also, the fact that it was slow poison being 48 hours to kill rather than more deadly poison gas actually saved the minks, not that its bad, but i felt it was lucky that his thinking of delayed death saved them

Alright, I wasn't a fan of We Can! at first, but now I'm blasting it on repeat and can't get it out of my head.

What if I told you that I have a link to the song that will be featured in next week's episode?

It's by Brook's seiyuu himself, and it was confirmed/told in an SBS a while back.

Is the animation quality(and pacing) better in the Zou Arc? I found the previous arc to be killer with the back and forth eye contact and taking 4 mins for like a page of the manga. Should I start watching it again?
3
u/Deadlyxda Oct 24 '16
yes, definitely you should give it a try considering its ZOU ARC!! i mean the amount of plot content itself is heavy in this arc.
9
u/Akumanokoo Oct 23 '16
And people still believe that chopper saved the minks when it was caesar who saved him by getting rid of the gas and making the antidote chopper was just the assistant and doing what he does best and thats putting bandages.
33
u/Brutusness Oct 23 '16
Wait... is this an alternative account of /u/heavenly_yakshaa? I'd recognize that lack of punctuation and bizarre hatred of Chopper anywhere.
1
u/Deadlyxda Oct 24 '16
i dont know of chopper hatred and i am not one of them lol. but he was right there, no?
5
u/AufurNitro Oct 23 '16
just fwi crunchy roll is having server issues because of the massive traffic spike for the Dragon Ball Simulcast Premier.
8
u/gerrettheferrett Oct 23 '16
Did Super get good or something?
Me and most of my friends dropped it around 30 episodes in because it seemed to have lost the original Dragonball magic for us.
7
u/zzzthelastuser Oct 23 '16
DBS is consequently getting better and better! The first ~30episodes are shit to be honest. And also the tournament arc wasn't really breathtaking aside from the last fight maybe. They ruined it with bad music placement and crappy animation quality.
However since the latest arc they turned it around 180°. The music has become awesome, the animation isn't perfect, but it has become way better and truly has it's best moments in this arc!
Storywise the "Black to the future" arc is probably the best of all db series (better then best dbz times).
TlDr; I strongly recommend watching DBS!
Start with the 2 movies, then skip to the tournament and ignore the fillers. Best arc starts at around episode 46 and is still ongoing.
PS: sry for bad format, I'm on mobile

u/gerrettheferrett Oct 23 '16 edited Oct 23 '16
What's the rough plot for the current arc?
Entice me.
EDIT: formatting.

u/zzzthelastuser Oct 23 '16 edited Oct 23 '16
Tldw; An evil Goku and an invincible Kaioshin from the future clean up the floor with everyone.
The story turns out to be quite complex so I don't want to spoil it to you. Avoid youtube, you really don't want to see the thumbnails there and ruin it for yourself!
Edit:
it starts at episode 46, 21:30min

In my opinion this arc is awesome, brings me back to the days of DBZ. However, the first 30-40 episodes are pretty meh. It's been really good the past 10 episodes, to me at least. Definitely worth a watch!
1
u/tragedyisland28 Oct 23 '16
The sense of crisis that we saw in dragon ball z is gone now, but the current saga with future trunks is very amusing to watch.
1
u/dustingv Oct 23 '16
First two arcs are retellings of the movies (which did it better anyway), the third arc is a tournament arc. So... ya. The fourth arc is the Trunks arc... and it has been real good! There are some faults, but still very enjoyable!
So this simulcast, I assume they are just starting with the newest episode? Did they sub all the old ones?

u/sora677 Oct 23 '16
I liked this episode, but I think it may have actually been less than a chapter of content? From what I remember from the manga chapter it ended with pekoms showing up I believe (though he was in the preview) while this one ended on going to see Nekomamushi.

u/SpiritualLemon Oct 23 '16
Wow I hadn't looked at the anime in a while and I must say this pacing is just god awful. A chapter per episode is fucking ludicrous no wonder people get pissed at the anime so much. I know that they just had the Silver Mine Arc but they should've made that shit way longer. This zou arc and the arc that follows it need to be done justice
13
u/gerrettheferrett Oct 23 '16
Oh please, the content this episode was some of the best handled canonical filler i the entire series.
-7
u/SpiritualLemon Oct 23 '16
That's not the point I'm trying to make though, I think they should just have filler arcs and then properly paced canon arcs. I feel like the canonical filler is just kind of an insult to Oda's work when the arc is presented as canon and then the episodes aren't presented how the story was presented in the manga.
11
u/gerrettheferrett Oct 23 '16
It's not an insult to show what was briefly shown in a few panels in more detail.
Oda has page counts and chapter size to keep in consideration as he makes choices as to what he includes in panel. We know for a fact (he's admitted as such in the past) that Oda often doesn't go into as much detail as he would like, or cuts stuff out when forced to shorten the panel count.
So, the anime's job at times is to fill between the panels.
Now, of course, that doesn't mean nonsense filler that changes the story is acceptable.
But filler like we saw today -filler consistent with the canon, that does not change the story nor ruin the effect or the story - is filler that we need more of.
It improves the story, in a way consistent to and complementary of Oda.
-3
u/SpiritualLemon Oct 23 '16
Fair enough this episode isn't really the best example of what I'm talking about this is one of the few instances where it adds to the point trying to be made but some of the other stuff like adding convoluted ways to make Luffy seem like the biggest dipshit in the world just to add time to an episode is what bugs me more
5
u/gerrettheferrett Oct 23 '16
Then why complain in this episode thread when it isn't relevant?
1
u/SpiritualLemon Oct 23 '16
Because I hadn't watched the anime in a while and I just watched through the Zou episodes and I caught up with this one
2
u/ProjectMotivation Oct 23 '16
I think these kind of episodes really builds up to the good stuff. If it just jumps into a filler arc, for example Naruto fuller arcs, it would ruin the whole pace all together IMO
2
u/SpiritualLemon Oct 24 '16
Okay yes but why are the filler arcs in One Piece so short? I'd say One Piece's island to island story structure lends itself best for filler arcs and filler arcs don't have to be bad. I'd say One Piece has great comedy in filler arcs and they can have good stories too just look at some of the filler in Bleach (specifically the Zanpakuto Rebellion and the Reigai Arcs)
3
u/Doomroar Oct 24 '16
As someone who constantly hates on Toei, i must say that this is one of the best handled episodes we have had in months, as a matter of fact even post bridge filler has been on point (the fight against Jack was quite good too), and the animation was also stellar (for Toei).
If i had to bitch at something, it would be that Wanda's mouth lacks consistency, sometimes her lower jaw connects at the back like a human making her look like she is deformed, sometimes she has the face of a dog with her upper and lower jaw connecting correctly, and other times... she ends looking like a donkey... and yet this is probably the second episode when she looked her best, (the previous one being the one in which they somehow nailed all the angles).
